Doug Fister was hit hard in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday, serving up five runs in six innings.

Four of the five runs scored on home runs. Nick Ahmed hit a solo shot in the third inning, David Peralta whacked a two-run homer in the fourth and Welington Castillo went yard for a solo shot in the same frame. Fister allowed eight hits overall, walking none and striking out six. The right-hander hasn't been able to make much progress in lowering his ERA, which currently stands at 4.60 along with a 1.42 WHIP and a 48/18 K/BB ratio over 86 innings. Fister will try to get back in the win column when he faces the Rockies at home next.

Zack Godley tossed six scoreless innings to beat the Nationals on Monday.

Godley scattered three hits and a pair of walks while fanning six batters in the effort. The 25-year-old has had terrific results in his first three major league starts, sporting a 1.50 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP and a 17/5 K/BB ratio over 18 frames. He'll look to continue the trend with a weekend start at home versus the Reds. The Diamondbacks plan to move Godley to the bullpen soon, so it could be his final start of the season.
Aug 3 - 9:49 PM

Nick Ahmed went 4-for-4 with a solo home run as the Diamondbacks beat the Nationals on Monday.

Ahmed broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a solo home run off of Doug Fister. It was one of four Arizona homers on the evening. The shortstop hasn't exactly been an offensive dynamo, as Monday's performance still leaves him with a lackluster .232/.289/.348 batting line along with seven home runs and 26 RBI.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Andrelton Simmons experienced a "really big improvement" with his sprained right thumb from Sunday to Monday.

Dr. Gary Laurie still needs to read the results of Simmons' MRI before more is known on his status, but it's sounding like the shortstop has a shot to avoid the disabled list. Simmons suffered the injury after trying to make a diving catch during Saturday's game.
Aug 3 - 9:34 PM

Freddie Freeman was pulled from Monday's game versus the Giants with a right oblique strain.

Well, at least he didn't aggravate his wright injury. The Braves are calling Freeman day-to-day for the time being, but, as we all know, oblique injuries usually wind up leading to stints on the disabled list. Chris Johnson would be poised to take over at first base if Freeman misses significant time.
Aug 3 - 9:13 PM

Stephen Strasburg (oblique) yielded two runs while striking out 11 over 5 2/3 innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

Strasburg gave up five hits and didn't walk anyone. The terrific showing should cinch his return to the Nationals' rotation this weekend at home against the Rockies. He's missed the last month with a strained left oblique.
Aug 3 - 8:52 PM

Freddie Freeman left Monday's game against the Giants with an undisclosed injury.

He didn't suffer an obvious injury but was replaced at first base by Chris Johnson in the top of the fifth inning. The worry has to be that Freeman re-injured his right wrist, but the Braves should offer more on his status later Monday.
Aug 3 - 8:39 PM

Matt Joyce (concussion) went through a workout on Monday.

Although he's been symptom-free for a few days, this is the first on-field workout Joyce has gone through since he went on the 7-day concussion disabled list. He should be ready to be activated soon, but the Angels might designate him for assignment.
