MMQB's Albert Breer believes there's a "realistic possibility" the 49ers put Colin Kaepernick "on ice" for all of the 2016 season.

Damarious Randall and Sam Shields will open the season as the Packers' starting cornerbacks.

"Sam and 'D' have separated themselves," said Packers CBs coach Joe Whitt. "But outside of that, we're looking for that fourth, fifth guy." A 2015 first-round pick, Randall turned in a rock-solid rookie campaign and was able to hold off Quinton Rollins' challenge in his second training camp. Rollis is locked in at nickel corner. The Nos. 4 and 5 jobs appear to be open.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports the Broncos have contacted the Cowboys regarding a trade of Mark Sanchez.

That's much different than the Cowboys contacting the Broncos. According to Slater, the Cowboys aren't interested in Sanchez at his current $4.5 million salary, so he'd have to take a pay cut to facilitate a deal. The Cowboys are looking for an experienced clipboard-holder for rookie Dak Prescott. Sanchez fits the profile. It's become clear Sanchez isn't long for Denver.

Patriots placed OG Tre' Jackson (knee) on reserve/PUP.

It'll cost Jackson at least the first six weeks of the season. We assume Jackson's issue stems from an offseason knee scope. Last year's No. 111 overall pick started nine games as a rookie. The Patriots are moving forward with rookie Joe Thuney and Jonathan Cooper as their starting guards.

Rams waived TE Jake Stoneburner, K Taylor Bertolet, TE Benson Browne, DB Michael Caputo, LB Zach Colvin, G/C Brian Folkerts, LB Darreon Herring, LS Jeff Overbaugh, WR David Richards, and OT Jordan Swindle.

Stoneburner was signed earlier this month and was competing for the last tight end job. FB Zach Laskey and WR Marquez North were waived/injured.

Patriots waived C Bryan Stork.

Five days after it was reported the Patriots were releasing Stork, he's now on the streets following a failed trade to the Redskins that was nullified when Stork contemplated retirement and then ultimately failed his physical. Stork has a history of concussions and is known as a hothead. If healthy, he should eventually land on his feet somewhere for a second chance.

NFL suspended free agent DT Sammie Lee Hill four games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Hill opened last season as the Titans' starting nose tackle but quickly fell out of favor after suffering a sprained MCL. He visited the Seahawks in March, but hasn't drawn a lick of known interest in the months since.

Seahawks placed DT Sealver Siliga on injured reserve with a calf injury, ending his season.

Siliga inked a one-year, $1.05 million deal back in March. He was expected to help the Seahawks' run defense, but Seattle opted to recently sign DT Tony McDaniel after Siliga was injured and fell out of favor. Expect him to be released with an injury settlement once his strained calf is back to 100 percent.
