Reds transferred RHP Caleb Cotham (shoulder, knee) to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a roster spot for Homer Bailey, who is set to return from Tommy John surgery Sunday versus San Diego. Cotham was close to returning from shoulder inflammation earlier this month but was shut down because of a knee issue. His return date remains a moving target.
Reds activated RHP Homer Bailey from the 60-day disabled list.
Bailey needed 14 months to recover from Tommy John surgery. He'll make his season debut for the Reds Sunday against the Padres. To make room for Bailey on the active roster, the Reds optioned Kyle Waldrop to Triple-A Louisville while also transferring Caleb Cotham (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list.
Salvador Perez (illness) was scratched from the Royals' lineup Thursday against the Rangers.
Perez is out with a head cold. Drew Butera will take over behind the plate and bat eighth against Texas lefty Cole Hamels. Consider Perez day-to-day.
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Brewers are still having trade discussions with the Mets about Jonathan Lucroy.
The Mets previously offered Travis d'Arnaud for Lucroy straight up but the Brewers understandably balked at that proposal. Perhaps the Mets have upped their offer. In addition to the Mets, Lucroy has drawn interest from the Astros, Indians, Red Sox and Rangers. Though talks between the Mets and Brewers remain ongoing, Rosenthal said a deal for Lucroy is not imminent.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed the team is leaning toward having Carlos Rodon (wrist) start Sunday against the Twins.
Rodon made it through Monday's rehab outing without issue and is slated to throw a side session on Friday. He sprained his left wrist prior to the All-Star break. The former No. 3 overall pick has seen mixed results this year with just two wins and a 4.50 ERA over 16 outings.
Diamondbacks optioned INF/OF Michael Freeman to Triple-A Reno.
A corresponding move hasn't been announced yet but David Peralta (back) is expected to come off the disabled list on Friday. Freeman was hitless with five strikeouts in nine at-bats during his brief stint in Arizona. The 28-year-old could be back when rosters expand in September.
Giants designated INF Grant Green for assignment.
Green spent about a month in San Francisco, hitting .261 with one homer and seven RBI while filling in for Joe Panik at second base. The 28-year-old will head to Triple-A Sacramento if he clears waivers.
Giants activated 2B Joe Panik from the 7-day disabled list.
He's back after missing a month with a concussion. Panik will start at second base and bat third Thursday against Washington. Grant Green, who filled in at second during Panik's absence, has been designated for assignment. Panik carries a .256 average over 273 at-bats this season.
