Patriots waived WR Josh Boyce, WR Jonathan Krause, TE Jimmay Mundine, DL Joe Vellano and LB Dekoda Watson.

A 2013 fourth-rounder, it's the second year in a row Boyce hasn't survived through final cuts. Although Boyce ended up making one 2014 appearance, this should be the end of the line for his time with the Patriots. Boyce has serious speed, but has dealt with injuries, and never got in rhythm with Tom Brady.

Rams waived CB Imoan Claiborne,
OT Steven Baker, OT Travis Bond,
S Jay Hughes, LS Tyler Ott, K/P Michael Palardy,
WR Tyler Slavin, TE Brad Smelley,
LB Korey Toomer and C David Wang.

Veteran WR Damian Williams was released. Claiborne's release came as a "mild surprise" to reporter Nick Wagoner. Getting cut loose now suggests the Rams don't view him as a candidate for the practice squad.

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell called Week 4 a "realistic" return target for Julius Thomas (hand surgery).

Thomas has already been essentially ruled out for the first three games of the season. It sounds like returning in Week 4 against the Colts would be a best case scenario. Expect Allen Robinson to be a target monster in the meantime, and for Allen Hurns to also see a bump in early-season usage.
Aug 31 - 5:20 PM

DeVante Parker (foot) resumed practicing Monday, and the Dolphins are "quietly hopeful" he'll be ready for Week 1.

Parker's limited session on Monday was his first practice of any kind since his June operation. With only 13 days to get in game shape, Parker will undoubtedly will be on a snap count for the opener, but he could be worked into the offense quickly. Parker remains worth stashing as a WR4/5.

Titans CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson has returned from his high ankle sprain.

He resumed practicing Monday after missing the previous two-plus weeks of training camp. With top Titans CB Jason McCourty (groin surgery) unlikely to play before Week 3, Wreh-Wilson projects as a potential starter opposite Perrish Cox to begin the year. DFS players should be praying Wreh-Wilson gets the nod with the ones. Wreh-Wilson is one of the NFL's easiest-to-burn corners.

Cowboys activated MLB Rolando McClain (knee scope) from the active/PUP list.

McClain is suspended for Weeks 1-4, but will be ready to rock against the Patriots in Week 5. One of 2014's biggest surprises, McClain will be returning to a starting job.
Aug 31 - 5:08 PM

49ers placed WR DeAndre Smelter (ACL surgery) on the reserve/NFI list.

The reserve/non-football injury list works the same as reserve/PUP, so Smelter will be ineligible to play in San Francisco's first six games. Smelter tore his ACL last season at Georgia Tech. The 132nd overall pick in May's draft, Smelter might have been a day-two selection without the injury.
Aug 31 - 4:38 PM

49ers waived DL Lawrence Okoye, K Corey Acosta, LB Steve Beauharnais, CB Mylan Hicks, OT Sean Hooey, WR Mario Hull, WR Chuck Jacobs, WR Nigel King, LB Shawn Lemon and FB Trey Millard.

Okoye signed a reserve/future contract in January. Still only 24 (in October), Okoye is a freak-of-nature athlete for his 6-foot-6 frame, but it simply isn't translating to football. The fact that he can't even crack the 49ers' practice speaks ill of his development.
