Ryan Zimmerman doubled twice and drove in a run Monday against the Royals.

The results haven't been there yet, but Zimmerman ranks among the top five percent of the league in exit velocity, suggesting that things are going to pick up for him. He's at .234/.310/.338 with one homer so far.

Salvador Perez went 0-for-4 on Monday and is in a 2-for-18 slump that's dropped his average to .241.

Perez had a great first three weeks, but has been cold since. He'll probably rebound soon enough, but he needs to build his numbers up during the first half of the season, since he tends to get too worn out to contribute offensively down the stretch.

Jose Berrios earned his first major league victory by allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings Monday against the Astros.

The runs both came on solo homers. Berrios walked five and threw just 54 of his 96 pitches for strikes, but his stuff is so good that he'll be able to get away with those kinds of things sometimes. He struck out eight tonight.

Jose Berrios won for the first time in the majors after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings Monday against the Astros.

Berrios issued five walks to go along with the two homers he allowed, but the homers came with the bases empty. It's still not ideal that he threw just 54 strikes among his 96 pitches, but his stuff is good enough that he'll be able to get away with that kind of thing sometimes. He struck out eight of the 23 batters he faced tonight.

Dallas Keuchel dropped to 2-4 after giving up five runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Twins.

Keuchel's velocity remains down significantly, and he's walked 18 batters in 37 innings. Those two factors would seem to suggest he's dealing with an injury of some sort, but he hasn't admitted to anything. On the plus side, he's still getting grounders and swings and misses. He's not nearly hopeless yet.
May 3 - 12:00 AM

Adam Wainwright notched a quality start with three runs allowed over six innings in Monday's 10-3 win over the Phillies.

The Phillies got to Wainwright with a three-run third inning, but he pitched well aside from that unfortunate frame. He also slugged a three-run homer into the upper deck to help his own cause. It was a small step in the right direction, although it speaks to how poorly he's pitched that it was probably his best effort of the season. Wainwright takes on the Pirates at home over the weekend.
May 2 - 11:59 PM

Eduardo Nunez homered, walked and drove in two runs Monday against the Astros.

The Twins are getting Trevor Plouffe back, so Nunez is about to lose almost all of his playing time at third base. It'll be interesting to see what the Twins do now, given that he's been one of their most productive players (.371/.415/.441 in 59 AB). He's a big defensive downgrade from Eduardo Escobar at shortstop, and while he has some outfield experience, he's never played center in the majors. Most likely, Nunez will sit most of the time, though he should get the occasional start in left.
May 2 - 11:57 PM

Colby Rasmus struck out all four times he was up Monday in the loss to the Twins.

Rasmus is in a 3-for-25 slump that's dropped his average from .293 to .241. Most likely, he'll finish the year in the neighborhood of .241, though perhaps with enough power to remain of use in mixed leagues.
