Bryce Brentz homered off Toronto's J.A. Happ to account for both Boston runs on Friday.

Brentz has three homers this spring, but he's batting just .156 in 45 at-bats. Although he's out of options, it seems awfully unlikely that anyone will claim him on waivers, meaning he's probably Pawtucket-bound one more time.

Charlie Morton allowed three hits over 4 1/3 innings in the Astros' 2-0 shutout of the Mets on Friday.

Morton struck out four in his latest strong outing. He's sporting a 1.05 ERA in 17 1/3 innings. There probably isn't any mixed-league potential here, but the Astros are probably going to be glad they signed him.

Noah Syndergaard limited the Astros to one run and four hits over six innings on Friday.

Syndergaard struck out five and walked none in his best showing so far this spring. Even though he's just now overcoming bronchitis, he has a 2.63 ERA in his four starts.

Derek Fisher went 2-for-4 with three more steals Friday, giving him 10 stolen bases this spring.

Fisher has been a fine basestealer in the minors, but nothing like this; he was 28-for-35 in 129 games last year and 31-for-38 in 123 games in 2015. He's a pretty solid hitter, too, and it's possible he could factor into the Astros' left field mix by season's end. He's also potential trade bait.

Lonnie Chisenhall exited Friday's game against the Cubs after colliding with the outfield wall.

Chisenhall appeared to be grabbing at his right shoulder as he walked off the field with a trainer and manager Terry Francona. The Indians should have an update on their right fielder shortly.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Jay Bruce went 0-for-3 on Friday, leaving him with a .200 average in 35 at-bats this spring.

Michael Conforto has 220 points of OPS on Bruce this spring (.911 to .693), but it doesn't figure to make any sort of difference; Bruce will be the Mets' regular right fielder and Conforto will likely head to Triple-A, even though he's the better player.
Mar 24 - 4:38 PM

Blue Jays optioned RHP Danny Barnes to Triple-A Buffalo.

He put up a 5.79 ERA over six appearances this spring. Barnes pitched well in his brief time with the Jays last season and has put up terrific numbers in the minors, so he'll get another shot soon enough.
Mar 24 - 4:34 PM

J.D. Martinez will be shut down for 3-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a sprained Lisfranc ligament in his right foot.

Martinez doesn't need surgery, but he'll be in a cast for 7-10 days and won't be ready for baseball activities again until well into April. It will obviously be quite a while after that before he's ready to play in a major league game. Steven Moya is likely to handle right field while Martinez is on the shelf.
