Carlos Santana went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Royals.

Santana cut the Indians' deficit to 4-1 when he lifted an Edinson Volquez offering over the fence in center field in the second inning. Though he's drawn plenty of walks, Santana has otherwise had a mediocre season to date, hitting .224/.354/.389 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI.

Kendrys Morales knocked in three runs in a 3-for-5 effort Monday as the Royals topped the Indians.

Morales hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, pushing the Royals' lead to 7-1. He then tacked on an RBI single in the seventh. The RBIs were his first in a week, but he's registered back-to-back three-hit games. He owns a helpful .287/.343/.457 triple-slash line with 12 home runs and 68 RBI on the year.
Jul 27 - 10:19 PM

Francisco Lindor slugged a three-run home run in Monday's loss to the Royals, finishing 1-for-5.

The Indians had fallen behind 9-1 when Lindor brought them back in the game with a three-run home run off of Joe Blanton in the seventh inning. The 21-year-old has hit safely in six straight games and now owns a .260/.297/.377 batting line with four home runs and 15 RBI since making his major league debut on June 14.
Jul 27 - 10:17 PM

Eric Hosmer had a big night in a win against the Indians on Monday, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.

Hosmer put the Royals on the board with three-run home run off of Cody Anderson in the first inning. He added an RBI single in the fifth. The first baseman appears to be back in the swing of things after a summer swoon, as he's resuscitated his batting line back up to .308/.368/.467 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Astros "were told weeks ago" that Cole Hamels would not approve a trade to Houston.

It apparently hasn't kept the Astros from pursuing him, as both Stark and his colleague, Jerry Crasnick, are hearing that Houston is making a late push for the left-hander. Whether they'd be able to offer the best package and talk the left-hander into changing his mind remains to be seen.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Tyson Ross has been the "focus" of the Cubs' trade talks with the Padres.

The Padres appear willing to trade anyone from their rotation, but Ross would probably be the least likely to be dealt since he's under team control through 2017. The Cubs have also expressed interest in Ian Kennedy and there's been some speculation that they could consider James Shields.
Jul 27 - 10:03 PM

Yadier Molina left Monday's game against the Reds in the fifth inning because he was "not feeling well."

It's the vaguest of injury designations. Worth noting is that Molina looked a bit woozy after taking a foul tip to the mask earlier in the game, although he did double and score after that incident. It's possible he just got a little overheated on a hot night in St. Louis.
Jul 27 - 10:00 PM

Ryan Braun was a late scratch from Monday's game with lower back tightness.

He should be considered day-to-day. Gerardo Parra moved over to right field in Braun's spot, with Khris Davis entering the lineup in left field.
