Mark Melancon (forearm) will play catch Thursday.

It will be the first time he's done any throwing since he was diagnosed with inflammation in his flexor tendon just before Opening Day. The Giants will have no idea on a timetable for Melancon until they see how he progresses. The veteran reliever should get his closer job back eventually when he's physically ready, but when/if that happens is up in the air. Hunter Strickland has been handling the ninth inning for San Francisco with Melancon out.

An MRI on Parker Bridwell's injured right elbow came back negative.

He's been diagnosed with inflammation and will resume a throwing program once he's clear of soreness. Bridwell has struggled in the early going this season.

Rich Hill (finger) will throw a simulated game Tuesday.

Hill landed on the disabled list last week with a cracked left middle fingernail. Provided that he gets through Tuesday's simulated game with no issues, he will be in line to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation on Saturday during their doubleheader against the Giants.
Apr 23 - 7:30 PM

Dodgers designated RHP Wilmer Font for assignment.

Font was pounded for 13 runs and served up five home runs over 10 1/3 relief innings. He should clear waivers.
Apr 23 - 7:26 PM

Dodgers recalled RHP Walker Buehler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Buehler will make his first major league start on Monday against the Marlins. If things go well, he could get another start on Saturday in San Francisco during a doubleheader. Buehler struggled as a reliever last September with the Dodgers, but the top prospect holds a 2.08 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio over 13 innings this season for Oklahoma City. He's a worthy streamer Monday.
Apr 23 - 7:25 PM

X-rays on Byron Buxton's (migraines) left foot came back negative.

Buxton fouled a ball off the foot in his first rehab game with High-A Fort Myers on Sunday. It's keeping him out of Monday's game and could potentially push back his return to the Twins a day or two. He had been slated for activation on Wednesday. Buxton originally went on the disabled list due to migraines but he's been clear of those symptoms.
Apr 23 - 7:20 PM

Will Smith (elbow) is on track to be activated from the disabled list next week.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Smith has allowed two runs with a 9/0 K/BB ratio over 4 2/3 rehab innings to this point. He will make back-to-back appearances Wednesday and Thursday and then pitch to a batter or two Sunday before being activated if all goes well.
Apr 23 - 6:52 PM

Christian Villanueva was scratched from the Padres' lineup Monday due to a sore hamstring.

Villanueva is available to pinch-hit, so it appears that the club is just being extra cautious here. Still, it's a bummer that fantasy owners will miss out on a Villanueva start at Coors Field while his bat is red-hot. Cory Spangenberg has replaced him in the lineup.
