Red Sox manager John Farrell said Blake Swihart "isn't out of the woods yet" in his recovery from a sprained left ankle.

"Blake is still in that almost ground-based testing and ramping up of intensity with the cuts and change of direction," Farrell elaborated. "That’s been step by step—two steps forward, one step back type of approach." In other words, Swihart isn't close to beginning a rehab assignment. The Red Sox were hoping to have Swihart back sometime in August but now that could be up in the air. Swihart was Boston's Opening Day catcher but he's since been moved to left field.

David Freese was ejected from Saturday's game against the Brewers for arguing balls and strikes.

Freese took exception to a called strike two during his at-bat in the fifth inning and was eventually given the hook from home plate umpire Marty Foster after continuing the argument between innings. John Jaso took over for Freese at first base. Freese went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts before exiting.

Joe Musgrove was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday for Triple-A Fresno.

Doug Fister's wife is expected to go into labor any day now, putting him in jeopardy of missing his scheduled start Monday against Toronto. If he's placed on the paternity list, Musgrove would likely start in his place. The 23-year-old has gone 5-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 10 starts since getting promoted to Fresno. He's already on the 40-man roster though he's yet to make his major league debut.

The Padres are expected to designate Hector Olivera for assignment when his trade to San Diego is complete, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The Braves couldn't wait to get rid of Olivera after his arrest and subsequent 82-game suspension and now it looks like the Padres can't either. Olivera is still owed $28.5 million, though his deal will be voided if he goes to prison. Once a promising prospect, Olivera's MLB future is starting to look bleak. The Braves are receiving Matt Kemp as compensation and will also get about $10-12 million from the Padres to cover the rest of his salary.

Colin Rea left Saturday's start against the Cardinals with right elbow soreness.

That's obviously not how he wanted his Marlins debut to go. Rea pitched well before he got hurt, allowing just one hit over 3 1/3 shutout innings. The Marlins are calling him day-to-day. Jose Urena or Justin Nicolino could be called on if Rea is unable to make his next start, which seems likely.

GM Dave Stewart said the Diamondbacks have received "a ton" of trade interest for Shelby Miller.

That's surprising given how poorly Miller has pitched this year. The Diamondbacks are listening but Stewart said the team would only move him for a major-league ready talent. Miller has logged a 5.09 ERA in three starts since returning to the minor leagues.

Wade Davis is flying back to Kansas City for an MRI on his right forearm.

Davis hasn't looked sharp since his return from the disabled list (4.15 ERA in five appearances) and now we might have a better idea why. The right-hander missed the minimum 15 days when he suffered a strained forearm earlier this month but apparently the pain hasn't subsided much. An extended absence would be a huge blow to both the Royals and his fantasy owners. Davis had been drawing some trade interest but we're guessing those talks are on hold now.

Zack Greinke (oblique) is expected to make one more rehab start before he's activated.

Greinke allowed an unearned run over three innings Friday in a rehab outing for the AZL Diamondbacks. Now he'll make one more start in the minors before returning to the Diamondbacks' rotation. The former Cy Young winner has been sidelined with a strained oblique since late June.
