Jayson Werth (hamstring) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list on Friday and could be sidelined for as much as two more weeks.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he received an "alarming" report on Werth Monday, which obviously doesn't sound good. The outfielder experienced a setback with his hamstring during a rehab game last week and has yet to return to game action. He was slated to see a specialist over the weekend and evidently didn't receive good news. Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will continue to be the primary fill-ins for Werth.

David Freese was scratched from Monday's lineup due to inflammation near his right thumb.

Freese was spiked during Sunday's game. He'll be available off the bench and could be ready to return to action on Tuesday. Ty Wigginton is getting the start at third base Monday.

Orioles signed C Ronny Paulino to a minor league contract.

Paulino was released by the Mariners just before the start of the season and has finally landed another gig. He played 20 games for the Orioles last season and spent the rest of the season at Triple-A Norfolk. The 32-year-old will report to extended spring training first before presumably being assigned to Norfolk.

Jordan Walden said his right shoulder felt "pretty good" after he played catch on Monday.

It's the first time he's played catch since landing on the disabled list. Walden is shooting to return next Monday when first eligible, but we won't know if that's a realistic goal until he throws from a mound. "That’s what we’re shooting for, but it’s got to be feeling good," Walden said. "…I just need to make sure I’m fully healthy when I come back because we already have great guys down there still. I just want to be part of it down there. I want to be able to help out Craig (Kimbrel) a little bit."

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Jurickson Profar will split playing time with Leury Garcia at second base while Ian Kinsler is on the disabled list.

"Leury's going to get some time there," Washington said. "So when you see Profar sitting, don't be surprised." It's obviously not what fantasy owners that picked up Profar want to hear. He should still see most of the starts at second, but Washington wants to keep Garcia sharp.

An MRI on Jerry Hairston Jr.'s knee has revealed tendinitis.

Hairston is on the DL with a left groin strain, but it appears that the knee might be a bigger issue at the moment. He had been slated to play in an extended spring training game Monday, but it's not clear if that happened. Hairston's timetable is up in the air.

Scott Proctor has decided to retire from baseball.

Proctor was a pretty decent middle reliever for a couple years, but overuse led to injuries and ineffectiveness the last few seasons. He last pitched in the majors in 2011, posting a 7.14 ERA over 39 games. He retires with a 4.78 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over parts of seven seasons.

John Jaso's right leg is still bothering him a bit, but he could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday.

He'll be available off the bench Monday. Jaso has been sore since being hit by a pitch last Wednesday, but the malady isn't a big concern.
