Mark Trumbo had a rough day at the dish against his former club on Wednesday, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

It was a tough afternoon for most M's hitters against Patrick Corbin, though Trumbo's ineptitude stood out. He's now hitting just .245/.284/.424 on the season with 12 homers and 36 RBI.

Felix Hernandez was hit hard in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

On the plus side, he did manage to strike out seven while issuing just one walk in the rough outing. His primary nemesis in this one was Welington Castillo who blasted a pair of home runs. Even with this debacle, Hernandez will carry a 3.02 ERA and 131/40 K/BB ratio into a tough matchup against the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Mets have spoken to the Tigers about Yoenis Cespedes.

Morosi cautions that there is only minimal interest from the Mets at this time. With the team reportedly closing in on a deal for an outfielder, there should be a resolution soon.

Robinson Cano's MRI results revealed a Grade 1 abdominal strain.

The Mariners are hopeful that he will be able to avoid the disabled list and should be cleared to DH in 5-6 days. In the meantime, the M's will play a man short on the bench.

Clayton Kershaw will make his next start on Friday against the Angels.

Kershaw was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday due to a minor hip issue. The Dodgers believe a couple of days off will do the trick and that the southpaw won't require an extended absence.

Justin Turner remains out of the Dodgers starting lineup on Wednesday.

Turner was forced to the emergency room on Tuesday due to a pimple on his leg that became infected. Alex Guerrero will take his place at the hot corner.

Miguel Montero has a checkup with a hand specialist Thursday in Chicago.

Montero has been hitting and catching at the Cubs' spring training complex in Arizona and he's hoping to be cleared for more activities Thursday after his exam. The veteran catcher has been on the disabled list since July 12 with a sprained left thumb. He is trending toward a mid-August return.

Edwin Encarnacion has been scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup Wednesday with a jammed finger.

X-rays on the finger -- his left middle finger -- turned up negative. Encarnacion can be considered day-to-day for now. Chris Colabello is filling in at first base and batting cleanup Wednesday against the Phillies.
