Anibal Sanchez yielded five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings but earned a win Wednesday versus Arizona.

Sanchez did not pitch well, allowing 11 total hits, but the Detroit offense exploded for 11 runs to take two of three games at Chase Field. Sanchez will look to bounce back next week at home against the White Sox. He is 7-4 with a solid 3.45 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Ruben Tejada feels "pretty good" after leaving Wednesday's game due to being hit in the head with a pitch.

It's good news, as Tejada could have easily been more seriously injured. Team doctors said he has no concussion symptoms, so a roster move won't be made at this time. Tejada will travel home with the team and should be back in the lineup shortly.

Trevor Cahill surrendered seven runs -- three earned -- over four innings Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.

It was an ugly game all around for the Diamondbacks, who lost 11-5. Cahill didn't walk a batter and struck out three, but the Detroit offense tagged him for eight hits. He's 1-7 with a 5.72 ERA and 1.71 WHIP this season.

Nationals manager Matt Williams said the MRI results for Ryan Zimmerman showed a "pretty substantial" hamstring strain.

Well, that's not good. Zimmerman was placed on the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game, and it doesn't appear he's anywhere close to returning to the club at this point. Anthony Rendon will get the majority of the starts at third base with Zimmerman sidelined.

Bartolo Colon carried a perfect game into the seventh inning Wednesday in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Mariners.

Robinson Cano ended the bid for perfection with a two-out single to shallow left field in the bottom of the seventh. Colon then gave up two runs in the eighth but wound up with his ninth victory of 2014. The 41-year-old right-hander has a 4.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 100/19 K/BB ratio in 134 innings this season. The Mets are known to be shopping him with the July 31 trade deadline drawing near.
Jul 23 - 6:56 PM

Stephen Strasburg gave up four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

The Rockies got to Strasburg for three early runs before tacking on another in the sixth. The right-hander struck out five while walking three in the uncharacteristic start. He's struggled in both starts since the All-Star break, and Wednesday's loss dropped him below .500 at 7-8 on the year. Perhaps a date with the Marlins next week is what he needs to get back in the win column.

Taijuan Walker allowed two earned runs over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.

Walker allowed only two hits but walked six in the shaky outing -- his first at the major league level since July 6. The 21-year-old right-hander is expected to be sent back to Triple-A Tacoma by Thursday afternoon.

Kyle Blanks said Wednesday his injured left calf is "doing better, a lot better."

Blanks is dealing with a slight tear in the calf, and he's been on the disabled list since June 23. A's manager Bob Melvin said Blanks is nearing a rehab assignment but is still probably at least a week away. A return in mid-August appears like the most likely scenario for the 27-year-old.
