Wilmer Flores is not in Monday's lineup against the Marlins.

Flores has seen an uptick in playing time with Todd Frazier (hamstring) sidelined, but he'll take a seat against right-hander Elieser Hernandez. Recent call-up Luis Guillorme will start at third base and bat seventh.

Mets signed RHP Cody Martin to a minor league contract.

Martin was pitching for the independent Kansas City T-Bones. The 28-year-old appeared in one game with the Mariners last season and owns a rough 6.33 over 35 appearances (including four starts) in the majors. He'll serve as organizational depth with his new team.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Monday that Khris Davis (groin) will likely be placed on the disabled list.

Davis left Sunday's game with a right groin strain. He was scheduled to be reevaluated Monday, but Melvin said that he "can't imagine" he won't end up on the disabled list based on how he was moving around. It's not exactly unexpected given how these injuries usually go. Mark Canha and Chad Pinder figure to see an uptick in playing time while Davis is sidelined, but the A's and fantasy owners are going to miss his big bat.

Athletics designated C Dustin Garneau for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Bruce Maxwell, who is back from the restricted list. Garneau, 30, was batting .208/.263/.333 over 22 games in Triple-A this season.
May 21 - 2:45 PM

Athletics optioned C Josh Phegley to Triple-A Nashville.

He'll head back down to the minors now that Bruce Maxwell has been activated from the restricted list. Phegley went 1-for-4 with an RBI double during his brief stay.
May 21 - 2:41 PM

Athletics activated C Bruce Maxwell from the restricted list.

Josh Phegley was sent down in a corresponding roster move. Maxwell was unable to travel with the team for their series in Toronto because of his ongoing legal case for allegedly pointing a gun at a delivery person in October.

Juan Soto will start in left field and bat sixth Monday against the Padres.

Soto struck out in his first major league at-bat Sunday, but this will his first MLB start. The Nationals are dealing with multiple injuries in their outfield, so they made the bold move of promoting the 19-year-old despite appearing in just eight games above High-A. They think he's equal to the task. It should be interesting, at the very least, but Soto is worth a pickup in most fantasy leagues on upside alone.
May 21 - 2:33 PM

Nationals purchased the contract of LHP Tim Collins from Triple-A Syracuse.

It's been a long time coming for Collins, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014. The 5-foot-7 lefty has had two Tommy John surgeries since. Collins had a 3.63 ERA and 20/9 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings in Triple-A this year. He'll pitch in middle relief in his return to the big leagues.
