Tigers activated DH Victor Martinez from the 10-day disabled list.

Martinez missed nearly two weeks of action with an irregular heartbeat. Thankfully, it appears that he's going to be fine. He'll go back to being the Tigers' regular designated hitter.

Sam Dyson is expected to serve as the Giants' closer while Mark Melancon (elbow) is on the disabled list.

Dyson flamed out as the Rangers' closer earlier this season, eventually getting sent to the minors and then designated for assignment. He's posted a 4.91 ERA over his first 7 1/3 innings for the Giants but does have a 10/3 K/BB ratio. Dyson is obviously not a safe bet to keep the job, so it wouldn't be a bad idea for fantasy owners to speculate on Hunter Strickland, as well.

Giants recalled RHP Daniel Slania from Triple-A Sacramento.

Slania pitched well last season in his first year since being converted from reliever to starter, but he's struggled this year with a 6.44 ERA between Double- and Triple-A. He'll give the Giants some length out of the bullpen.

Giants placed RHP Mark Melancon on the 10-day disabled list with a right pronator strain.

It's the same injury that sent him to the DL last month. Melancon missed barely over the minimum amount of time the first trip, but the Giants would figure to be more careful with him this go-round. Sam Dyson is expected to handle the closing duties for the Giants while Melancon is sidelined.

Royals placed INF Cheslor Cuthbert on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 26, with a sprained left wrist.

It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. Jorge Soler has replaced Cuthbert on the roster.

Royals recalled OF Jorge Soler from Triple-A Omaha.

Soler was sent down earlier this month after batting an ugly .164/.292/.273 over his first 65 plate appearances. However, he hit a robust .333/.478/.736 with eight homers over 20 games for Omaha since being optioned and should get a good number of starts in the designated hitter spot with Brandon Moss struggling.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com writes that Howie Kendrick (hamstring) being placed on the disabled list is "looking likely."

Kendrick had been slated to start a second straight game in the designated hitter spot Wednesday, but he told Phillies manager Pete Mackanin that he wasn't feeling up to it. He hasn't started a game in the field in a week due to a strained left hamstring. The Phillies will certainly be hoping that Kendrick's absence will be short, as they're likely to shop him before the trade deadline.
Jun 28 - 2:36 PM

Gregory Polanco is not in the Pirates' lineup Wednesday.

Adam Frazier is also on the bench with the Rays throwing lefty Blake Snell. The Pirates have Josh Harrison in left field, Jose Osuna in right and Max Moroff at second base.
