Padres acquired RHP Hansel Rodriguez from the Blue Jays for OF Melvin Upton and cash considerations.

Rodriguez, 19, has posted a 3.06 ERA and 26/11 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings as a starter in rookie ball this year. The Padres are covering a significant portion of Upton's remaining salary and managed to get a high-upside arm in return. The trade also opens up playing time for Alex Dickerson and (eventually) prospects Hunter Renfroe and Manuel Margot.

Blue Jays acquired OF Melvin Upton and cash considerations from the Padres for RHP Hansel Rodriguez.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears that the Padres will cover all but $5 million of the roughly $22 million remaining on Upton's contract. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a resurgent season with the Padres and will provide some depth and versatility to the Blue Jays' outfield. While the ballpark change is a positive, he might lose a couple of starts a week and probably won't run as much. His fantasy value takes a bit of a dip with the trade. Since the Padres are in Toronto this week, Upton will just have to switch dugouts on Tuesday.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears that the Padres will acquire prospect right-hander Hansel Rodriguez in the Melvin Upton deal.

The Padres are also expected to cover a significant portion of Upton's remaining salary. 19-year-old Rodriguez has a big arm and has posted a 3.06 ERA and 26/11 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings in rookie ball this year. He's obviously a ways off from the majors.

Madison Bumgarner is now represented by the Legacy Agency.

Bumgarner left Relativity for Excel Sports Management earlier this year, but now he has switched representation again. The southpaw is under contract through 2017 with a pair of affordable club options for 2018 and 2019, so this is a move with a look toward the future.

Dee Gordon (suspension) remains on track to rejoin the Marlins on Thursday.

Gordon is serving the final days of his 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. The speedy second baseman is 7-for-27 (.259) over seven games during his minor league tuneup games with Triple-A New Orleans. He got off to a slow start, but has hit safely in each of his last five games. He could make a big impact in fantasy leagues over the final two months.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday that there's no clear timetable for Koji Uehara's return from his strained right pectoral muscle.

"The injury is unusual. There’s not a lot of track record on this one," said Dombrowski. "So I do not have any idea. I know he’ll be out 15 days, but I can’t tell you if it’s going to be soon after that or long after that." Uehara suffered the injury last Tuesday and received a platelet-rich plasma on Friday to help with the healing process. The Red Sox are hopeful he'll be able to return this season, but his status is up in the air right now. The recently-acquired Brad Ziegler is filling in at closer right now, but Craig Kimbrel (knee) is expected to return next week.

Dexter Fowler (soreness) went 1-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in his return to the lineup Monday against the Mariners.

Fowler was held out of the starting lineup Sunday due to general soreness, but he felt well enough to serve as the designated hitter for Monday's interleague contest. Cubs manager Joe Maddon told Carrie Muskat of MLB.com that he's still getting in "baseball shape" after his hamstring injury, so he should be back up to speed soon.

J.D. Martinez (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo.

Martinez will be eased in as the DH as he makes his way back from a non-displaced fracture of the radial neck of his right elbow. He admitted Monday that he'll have to deal with pain for the rest of the season, but he wants to make it back with the Tigers still in the mix. "My bat worries me more than my throwing," said Martinez. "Timing-wise and arm-wise. I feel it puts more stress on my elbow hitting than it does throwing."
