Cliff Lee (elbow) will be examined by a doctor on Saturday.

Lee admitted feeling soreness in his left elbow while warming up Thursday and he made it just 2 2/3 innings before having to leave. The initial diagnosis is a left flexor pronator strain, which is the same ailment that kept him out for two months earlier this season. Lee admitted that surgery is a possibility and conceded that he's probably done for the season. We'll know for sure after Saturday's exam.

Nolan Reimold hit two solo home runs on Thursday, including a go-ahead shot in the ninth inning to help the Blue Jays edge out the Astros.

The two homers were his only successes in four at-bats, but they were big successes. His first occurred in the fifth off of starter Jake Buchanan, and his second came against reliever Chad Qualls to break a 5-5 tie in the ninth. Reimold recently returned from a calf injury and hasn't played much since joining the Jays earlier this season. In 19 plate appearances with the Jays, he has the pair of homers along with three doubles and five RBI.

Eric Hosmer left Thursday's game versus the Twins after aggravating his right hand injury.

He's set to undergo X-rays. Hosmer was hit in the hand by a pitch over a week ago and still isn't right, so it seems likely that he has more than just a bruise. The results of the X-ray should be available later Thursday.

Mike Zunino hit a go-ahead two-run home run, his only hit in four at-bats, as the Mariners enjoyed a 6-5 win over the Indians on Thursday.

Zunino took Indians reliever Bryan Shaw out to left field for his 17th homer of the season, and his third in his last four ballgames. The catcher continues to supply the power but not much else, slashing .212/.262/.438 with 40 RBI.
Jul 31 - 11:01 PM

Jason Kipnis went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run, but the Indians lost by one run to the Mariners on Thursday.

The Indians hung a three-spot on the Mariners in the third, but Kipnis answered back with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, part of the Indians' own three-spot. Kipnis has been slumping at the plate and recently acknowledged that his right oblique muscle is still bothering him. He's slashing .243/.322/.356 with six home runs, 36 RBI, and 15 stolen bases.
Jul 31 - 10:58 PM

Dustin Ackley walked and hit a two-run home run in five trips to the plate as the Mariners narrowly edged out the Indians on Thursday.

The All-Star break seems to have reinvigorated Ackley, as he has been on a tear in the 13 games since. He took Zach McAllister deep for a two-run blast in the third inning, only the fifth time Ackley has gone yard this season. The outfielder has a .253/.301/.375 with 36 RBI on the season.

Marlins optioned LHP Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans.

Jennings boasts a 1.15 ERA over 35 relief appearances for the Marlins this season but for some reason keeps shuttling back-and-forth from Triple-A to the majors. He'll be back up again before long.
Jul 31 - 10:51 PM

Fernando Rodney picked up save number 30, preserving the Mariners' one-run lead in the ninth inning in Thursday's win against the Indians.

Rodney allowed a two-out single, but was able to strike out Lonnie Chisenhall to end the minor threat. The veteran is 30-for-33 in save chances with a 2.06 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 50/17 K/BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings. Rodney's 30 saves are fifth-best in baseball and tops in the American League.
