Matt Carpenter hit a three-run homer and collected four RBI in all as the Cardinals came back to defeat the Cubs 7-4 on Tuesday.

The Cardinals trailed 4-1 when Carpenter stepped to the dish with two runners on in the fifth inning, but he pulled an inside pitch into the right field bleachers for his fifth homer of the year. Carpenter later added an RBI sacrifice fly. The superlatives have all been used to describe Carpenter's 2015 season to date, as he's now hitting .346/.412/.644 with 20 RBI and 23 runs scored to go with his five dingers.

James Paxton held the Angels to two runs over seven innings in a no-decision as the Mariners were handed a 5-4 walk-off loss by the Angels on Tuesday.

Paxton was quite strong, unarguably pitching his best game of the season. His only mistake occurred in the first inning when Albert Pujols took him deep for a two-run home run. Overall, the lefty gave up four hits and three walks while striking out four. Paxton mostly sat around 93 MPH with his fastball, but maxed out at 97 MPH. He lowered his ERA to 5.08 and sports a 1.34 WHIP with a 30/11 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings. The Padres await him in a home start next.
May 6 - 1:09 AM

Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Rizzo had a double to go along with two singles. He also walked in the game, reaching in four of his five plate appearances. The first baseman has been a monster offensively through the season's first month-plus, batting .333/.473/.552 with four homers, 12 RBI, 21 runs scored and seven stolen bases to boot.
May 6 - 1:07 AM

Trevor Rosenthal earned his ninth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Cubs.

Rosenthal got a couple quick ground ball outs before Starlin Castro singled to add some intrigue. Rosenthal got Junior Lake swinging, though, to end any potential threat. It was a nice rebound for Rosenthal after he sustained his first blown save of the season his last time out. The right-hander owns a strong 1.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings this year.
May 6 - 1:05 AM

Garrett Richards pitched well, giving up only one run in seven innings, but took a no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.

Richards left the game in line for the win, but the bullpen could not secure it for him. The right-hander allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five. The Mariners plated their only run against him in the second inning when Mike Zunino hit a single to center field. Richards now has a 2.52 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and a 19/12 K/BB ratio in 25 innings. He has gotten better and better since making his 2015 debut on April 19. He'll look to keep it going in Sunday's home start against the first-place Astros.
May 6 - 1:03 AM

Addison Russell went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Russell hit a couple balls hard, barely missing a home run off Tyler Lyons in the Cubs' three-run fifth inning. He's got a modest eight-game hitting streak going, raising his line to .261/.292/.500. The 21-year-old is ultra-talented and shouldn't toil at the bottom of Cubs manager Joe Maddon's lineup card for long.
May 6 - 1:01 AM

Logan Morrison went 3-for-3 with a walk and a pair of doubles, but the Mariners lost in walk-off fashion to the Angels on Tuesday.

Morrison doubled and scored in the second inning, doubled and was stranded in the fourth, then singled and scored in the eighth. It was yet another productive night at the plate for the first baseman, who has started to heat up. He's on a seven-game hitting streak and has bolstered his triple-slash line to a more respectable .247/.300/.430 with four home runs and seven RBI.
May 6 - 1:00 AM

Kolten Wong delivered another multi-hit game Tuesday, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Cubs.

Wong doubled and scored in the fifth, singled and scored in the sixth and beat out an infield hit for an RBI single in the seventh. He's got eight hits in his last 12 at-bats as he's turned in three straight multi-hit outings. The hit binge has his overall line up to .323/.363/.462.
