Jhonny Peralta (thumb) said he's hoping to begin swinging a bat in the next day or two.

Peralta was placed on the 15-day disabled list July 19 with ongoing discomfort in his surgically-repaired left thumb. It sounds like he could be ready in mid-August, but this has become a lingering thing and it's possible there are more setbacks to come.

Mark Melancon picked up save No. 29 in the Pirates' 7-4 defeat of the Phillies on Saturday.

Melancon racked up two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning. He is sporting a fantastic 1.55 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 38/9 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings this season for the Pirates, who are trying to stay within striking distance of a Wild Card spot. They might consider trading their impending free agent closer if things go south.

Aaron Nola was lit up for six earned runs over four innings Saturday in a loss to the Pirates.

Nola appeared to be over his recent struggles when he threw six scoreless innings Monday against the Marlins, but he reverted back to his pre-All-Star-break form on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh. The right-hander gave up six hits and walked two. He'll carry a 5-9 record and 4.75 ERA into his next start on the road against the Braves.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers do not want to include Nomar Mazara in a trade for White Sox ace Chris Sale.

Reports suggest the White Sox are asking for Mazara on top of Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo. That would be a massive haul for Chicago, and one they're probably not going to get. Mazara, 21, has batted .281/.334/.413 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, and 38 runs scored over his first 88 major league games while playing very good defense in the outfield. Sale was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers following a clubhouse incident with members of the White Sox front office. It probably had something to do with all the trade rumors swirling around him.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick hears the Chris Sale clubhouse incident was with front office staff.

Crasnick says the incident began with something "silly" and blew up into a bigger argument. It did not get physical, per a press release from the club, but the words exchanged were serious enough to cause the White Sox to scratch their ace from his scheduled start Saturday night against the Tigers. Matt Albers is going to take the mound instead versus Detroit.

Josh Reddick was scratched from the A's lineup on Saturday due to back soreness.

It sounds like a day-to-day type of thing. Reddick has posted a cool .295/.374/.433 batting line in 61 games this season and will be a big trade chip for the Athletics ahead of the August 1 non-waiver deadline. There is known to be interest from the Cubs.

Diamondbacks pitching prospect Braden Shipley will be called up to make his major league debut Monday in Milwaukee.

Shipley will be filling in for Zack Greinke, who remains sidelined with an oblique injury. The former first-round draft pick (15th overall in 2013) has registered a 3.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 77/22 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Reno. It's not clear whether he'll get another turn after Monday.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the White Sox are talking to teams about Chris Sale.

That's not exactly breaking news -- trade rumors have swirled around Sale for weeks -- but Passan's report is relevant because those discussions are ongoing even after the ace left-hander was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers because of a pregame clubhouse incident. We don't have any details about that incident, only that it was non-physical and did not cause an injury. This could be a very busy night for Sale's Rotoworld profile.
