Michael Pineda allowed four hits over six innings as the Yankees shut out the Cubs 2-0 in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The Yankees shut out the Cubs in both ends of the doubleheader. Pineda picked up his second win by throwing 89 pitches on a chilly evening. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three. Obviously, he shouldn't be unowned in any mixed leagues at this point.

Adam Warren pitched a hitless ninth in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader to pick up a save against the Cubs.

Warren is supposed to be more of a swingman-type, but he's looked good in short relief so far, pitching seven scoreless innings with his velocity up a bit. It won't lead to many more save chances, but he's poised to be a more useful piece of the Yankees pen than he was last year.
Apr 16 - 11:52 PM

Derek Jeter returned to action in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader and went 1-for-5 against the Cubs.

Jeter missed three games due to quad soreness.
Apr 16 - 11:50 PM

Emilio Bonifacio finished Wednesday's doubleheader 0-for-8 against the Yankees.

The fun times are over; Bonifacio has gone 1-for-21 in his last five games to drop his average from .500 to .339. Still, it says a lot about how hot he was early on that he can have a 1-for-21 stretch and still be hitting .339. He still rates as the Cubs' best leadoff option at the moment, and we'd expect him to remain in the lineup most of the time.
Apr 16 - 11:48 PM

Zach McAllister pitched six innings of one-run ball to beat the Tigers on Wednesday.

Looking solid once again this year, McAllister has allowed just one run in 13 2/3 innings over his last two starts. He doesn't really have an outpitch and his walk rate is nothing special, but he's 53 starts into his career with an ERA right at 4.00. He'll get the Royals next time out.
Apr 16 - 11:32 PM

John Axford bounced back from a blown save to pitch a scoreless ninth Wednesday against the Tigers.

Axford protected a one-run lead for his fifth save in six chances. He needs to cut down on the walks if he's going to remain successful; he's issued six in 6 2/3 innings this season.
Apr 16 - 11:28 PM

Anibal Sanchez struck out eight while allowing three runs -- two earned -- in five innings Wednesday against the Indians.

Sanchez was four and threw 104 pitches, so once again, he failed to go deep into a game. While he has a 3.21 ERA, he's pitched just 14 innings in his three starts to date. Now, the first of those outings was shortened to four innings by rain, but he should be going more than five innings when it's dry. Because of the short outings, he doesn't have a win, even though the Tigers have prevailed in two of his starts.
Apr 16 - 11:22 PM

Yan Gomes finished 2-for-4 with a two-run triple versus the Tigers on Wednesday.

The triple off Anibal Sanchez gave Gomes his first ribbies in 10 days. Still, he's off to a strong start with a .293 average and two homers. He rates as a strong No. 2 catcher in mixed leagues.
