Chris Denorfia (hamstring) is expected to play in a minor league game by the middle of the week.

Denorfia, who has been nursing a left hamstring strain for two weeks, took batting practice Monday. The outfielder's status for Opening Day is up in the air. "I don't like to speculate on things like that," Denorfia said. "When you're rehabbing, anything can happen. As long as everything progresses the way it should, [I should be ready] sometime around that time. The goal is to be ready by then."

Starlin Castro went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Monday's 8-5 victory over the Giants.

Castro has hit in five consecutive Cactus League games dating back to March 19. He had been slowed recently by minor groin tightness, but he should be ready for the start of the regular season. Castro had arguably his best offensive season last year, batting .292 with 14 home runs.

Tim Hudson wasn't very sharp on Monday, serving up four runs on 10 hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings against the Cubs.

All told, it could have been much worse. The Cubs scored once in each of the first four innings. Hudson has mostly pitched well this spring and looks regular season-ready in what may be the 39-year-old's final season. He compiled a 3.57 ERA and a 120/34 K/BB ratio in 189 1/3 innings for the Giants last season.

Coco Crisp (elbow) will not play the field during an appearance in a minor league game Tuesday.

The A's are protecting Crisp's elbow, so they'll only have him take some at-bats so he doesn't have to do any throwing. The club is still hoping to have him ready for Opening Day, but they're playing Crisp in minor league contests just in case they have to make a backdated disabled list move.

An MRI on Travis Ishikawa's back came back negative.

Ishikawa had to be lifted from Sunday's game after his back tightened up on him, but it appears he'll be fine. He's expected to return to game action on Thursday.

Joe Panik went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's Cactus League matinee with the Cubs.

Panik sparked a rally, as his solo shot off of Kyle Hendricks sparked a five-run outburst against the Cubs. The young second baseman has not hit much this spring, but has back-to-back multi-hit games which has pushed his Cactus League average up to .220 (13-for-59).

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Monday that Archie Bradley is in the mix for the team's final bullpen spot.

It's hard to believe it would happen. The Diamondbacks are poised for a rebuilding year and Bradley needs to be in a rotation somewhere as he tries to revive his stock a bit after a disappointing, injury-shortened 2014. We'd be very surprised if he's not in the Triple-A rotation to start 2015, but he's a good bet to debut at some point this season.

Kyle Hendricks was great until the sixth inning, allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings in Monday's start against the Giants.

Hendricks had blanked the Giants through five until they hung a five-spot in the sixth inning. After leading off the frame with a strikeout, Hendricks allowed a solo home run to Joe Panik followed by a single, a walk, another single, and a double before departing. All told, he gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out five. Last season, Hendricks succeeded despite a mediocre ability to miss bats, finishing with a 2.46 ERA and a 47/15 K/BB ratio in 80 1/3 innings.
