Rangers released 1B James Loney.

Loney batted just .174 with a .485 OPS this spring in the Cactus League, failing to earn a spot on the Rangers' bench. The veteran first baseman should be able to find another non-guaranteed minor league deal.

Athletics released OF Alejandro De Aza.

Mark Canha and Jaff Decker are projected to open the season as the A's backup outfielders, so De Aza will try to find work elsewhere. The soon-to-be 32-year-old was in camp this spring on a non-guaranteed minor league deal, and he should be able to find another one. De Aza is a .261/.328/.398 career hitter in the major leagues.

Diamondbacks reassigned RHP Rubby De La Rosa, OF Reymond Fuentes, C Hank Conger, and INF/OF Kristopher Negron to minor league camp.

An unsurprising round of Monday morning cuts from Diamondbacks camp. De La Rosa underwent two rounds of stem-cell therapy over the offseason as he attempts to avoid Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. It's not clear what the exact plan is for him in early 2017, but he figures to report to Triple-A Reno once he's healthy.

Jeurys Familia is expected to meet with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred on Monday regarding his offseason domestic violence incident.

Familia left Mets camp on Sunday night and flew to New York for the meeting. Manfred is almost certain to levy some sort of suspension on the 27-year-old closer, who was accused (but ultimately not charged) of assaulting his wife on October 31 in New Jersey. Addison Reed is in position to open the 2017 regular season as the Mets' primary ninth-inning man.

Colin Rea (elbow) is scheduled to begin playing catch on Opening Day.

Rea was initially aiming to start a throwing program in early March, but the Padres backed him off that plan for precautionary reasons. The right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and will miss the entire 2017 season.
Mar 27 - 11:43 AM

Reds released OF Ryan Raburn.

Raburn showed decent power this spring, cranking three home runs in 32 at-bats in Cactus League play, but he was always a longshot to make the Reds' roster out of camp. The soon-to-be 36-year-old outfielder will try to latch on with another organization.
Mar 27 - 11:38 AM

Adrian Beltre is out of the Rangers' Cactus League lineup on Monday due to a tight right calf muscle.

Beltre suffered a Grade 1 strain of his left calf early on in Rangers camp. This right calf injury is not considered as serious, but we are just one week from Opening Day. Look for another status update Tuesday.

Jorge Soler has been diagnosed with a strained oblique and will likely open the 2017 season on the disabled list.

His disabled list stint can be backdated to sometime in March so that he might only have to sit out one week of regular-season games. Soler, acquired this winter from the Cubs for closer Wade Davis, was batting just .143/.254/.286 through 59 plate appearances in this year's Cactus League. Terrance Gore now projects to make the Royals' roster out of camp.
