Adonis Garcia hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, but the Braves lost in 11 frames to the Orioles on Monday.

Garcia finished 2-for-5 overall. His home run, off of Zach Britton, broke a scoreless tie and put the Braves in position to sneak away with a win but Jim Johnson blew the save in the bottom half of the inning. The 30-year-old Cuban has homered in back-to-back games.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are "hottest" on Craig Kimbrel.

The Nats have also been linked to Aroldis Chapman, as they appear determined to land an elite closer despite Drew Storen's fine season. Rosenthal adds that the Padres asked for Trea Turner (who they traded to Washington over the winter) from the Nationals in trade talks but were told it wouldn't happen.

Matt Wieters clubbed a walk-off solo home run in the 11th inning against the Braves on Monday.

The two clubs brought a 0-0 game into the ninth inning, and each team scored once in their half-inning to send the game into extras. Wieters ended the drama with a walk-off solo job to right-center off of Luis Avilan. It's the catcher's first home run since June 25, as he has been scuffling offensively. Wieters is hitting .250/.276/.431 with four home runs and 13 RBI since making his season debut on June 5.

Joe Blanton pitched the final three innings of Monday's 9-4 win over the Indians, earning his second save.

With the Royals ahead 9-1, Blanton allowed a three-run home run to Francisco Lindor in the seventh, but only one of those runs was charged to him. It's a save only in the technical sense, as the Royals were never in any real danger of losing Monday's contest.
Jul 27 - 10:31 PM

Cody Anderson was hit around in Monday's loss to the Royals, yielding seven runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Anderson entered the start having allowed seven runs in 33 innings spanning five starts. He doubled that with Monday's effort. The Royals got to him early, as Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer in the first and Omar Infante tacked on a solo shot in the second. Anderson allowed eight hits and a pair of walks overall while striking out two. He'll bring a 3.26 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and a 14/5 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings into his next start in Oakland versus the Athletics.
Jul 27 - 10:27 PM

Edinson Volquez registered a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings, to earn his 10th win as the Royals beat the Indians on Monday.

The three earned runs are the most Volquez had allowed since July 1. Carlos Santana took him yard for a solo home run in the second inning and Francisco Lindor belted a three-run home run off of Joe Blanton in the seventh, with two of those runs charged to Volquez. The right-hander, overall, allowed six hits and walked five while striking out four. It certainly wasn't his best effort in what has otherwise been a fine season. He owns a 3.21 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and a 95/47 K/BB ratio over 126 innings. Volquez toes the rubber in Toronto against the Blue Jays next.
Jul 27 - 10:25 PM

Carlos Santana went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Royals.

Santana cut the Indians' deficit to 4-1 when he lifted an Edinson Volquez offering over the fence in center field in the second inning. Though he's drawn plenty of walks, Santana has otherwise had a mediocre season to date, hitting .224/.354/.389 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI.
Jul 27 - 10:22 PM

Kendrys Morales knocked in three runs in a 3-for-5 effort Monday as the Royals topped the Indians.

Morales hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, pushing the Royals' lead to 7-1. He then tacked on an RBI single in the seventh. The RBIs were his first in a week, but he's registered back-to-back three-hit games. He owns a helpful .287/.343/.457 triple-slash line with 12 home runs and 68 RBI on the year.
