Tre Mason - RB - Rams

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Sunday that Tre Mason (hamstring) is questionable for Week 1.

Mason missed early-camp practice time with a hamstring injury. He resumed practicing recently, but aggravated the injury in Saturday night's preseason game. The Rams view the injury is "mild," but Mason needs to avoid setbacks to be available for Week 1 against Seattle. Benny Cunningham is the Rams' No. 3 running back behind Mason and Todd Gurley (ACL).

Alfred Blue rushed four times for 12 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' third preseason game.

Blue continued to operate as Houston's lead back and dove into the end zone from a yard out to cap the Texans' opening drive. The Texans gave Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk work with the Brian Hoyer group also, however, which may hint they are planning on using something of a backfield rotation. Blue remains the favorite for early-down and goal-line work until Arian Foster returns.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh expressed frustration with rookie Buck Allen after Saturday night's goal-line fumble.

Allen also rain poorly, managing 29 yards on 13 touches. He is averaging 2.69 yards per carry this preseason. "You have to hold on to the football," Harbaugh said. "It’s just not possible to put runners out there that fumble the football. He’s going to have other opportunities and chances going forward, and I really believe he’s going to be a very good player. But, he’s going to have to learn from that."

Giants coach Tom Coughlin does not expect Victor Cruz (calf) to practice this week.

The Giants insist the injuries aren't related, but Cruz is coming back from a torn patellar tendon, an injury that frequently leads to "compensation" injuries in other areas of the body. Cruz has no known timetable for return.

Dolphins released C J.D. Walton.

It's an endorsement of Mike Pouncey's (knee) health. It's a mild surprise for a team with precious little line depth, but Walton struggled mightily as a 16-game starter for the Giants last season. Walton's 52 games of starting experience at the pivot should earn him another chance some time in the next month.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Redskins "front office officials and coaches" want to move on from Robert Griffin III, but are "meeting resistance from team ownership."

It's no secret owner Dan Snyder played a major role in spoiling RG3, resulting in clashes with both the Shanahan and Gruden coaching staffs. It now sounds like GM Scot McCloughan is on board with cutting ties on Griffin, but Snyder isn't letting the move happen. Schefter reports the Skins have gone so far as to shop RG3 on the trade market, "but have found no interest." A split between the Redskins' organization and Griffin seems imminent.

Drew Brees completed 4-of-6 passes for 40 yards in the Saints' third preseason game.

Playing only one possession, Brees marched the Saints downfield with hookups to Brandin Cooks (6, 13), Mark Ingram (12), and Ben Watson (9) before a converted field goal. Amid concerns about a ball-control offense, the Saints are continuing to spread the field with three wide receivers on the majority of plays. With Ben Roethlisberger losing Martavis Bryant, Brees is in the top-five fantasy quarterback conversation behind Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers, and along with Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning.

Speaking Sunday, Browns coach Mike Pettine refused to rule out signing free agent Ray Rice.

With Duke Johnson in the concussion protocol, the Browns are short at running back. It's the second time Pettine has passed up the opportunity to say the team isn't interested in Rice. Although Rice is now 28 and coming off a year where he didn't play, he leads a barren running back "market." Rice's addition would further muddle a backfield where the pecking order has been anything but clear.
