Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer Friday against the White Sox.

Salty is batting .333 in 42 at-bats this month. The Red Sox are trying to limit the switch-hitter's at-bats against left-handers and it's working so far; he's hitting .302 with all five of his homers and 12 of his 13 RBI against righties.

Rangers optioned C Robinson Chirinos to Triple-A Round Rock.

He's clearing the way for A.J. Pierzynski's return from the DL on Tuesday. Chirinos picked up three hits in 12 at-bats with the big club.

Rangers optioned RHP Josh Lindblom to Triple-A Round Rock.

Lindblom was sent down shortly after an unsuccessful first major league start where he allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over just 4 2/3 innings. The Rangers will call up a reliever prior to Tuesday's game.

Ryan Vogelsong left Monday's start against the Nationals after getting hit on the right hand by a pitch while swinging.

Vogelsong swung at a pitch in on his hands, and the ball appeared to catch him on the right knuckles. It was poor timing, as the righty was in the middle of his best start of the season, allowing three hits and a walk over five scoreless frames. The Giants should have an update on his status soon.

Patrick Corbin moved to 7-0 by pitching a three-hitter and striking out 10 as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 5-1 on Monday.

Corbin's April could have been written off as something of a fluke after he went 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA. However, he's now 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA in May. It's a pretty amazing transformation for a guy who went 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA and 14 homers allowed in 107 innings last year.
May 21 - 12:03 AM

A.J. Pollock broke out of a slump by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored Monday against the Rockies.

Pollock went 1-for-19 last week, and he was hitting just .204 in May. He's probably getting sent down later this month when Adam Eaton comes off the DL.

Matt Dominguez went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off Jeremy Guthrie as the Astros topped the Royals 6-5 on Monday.

Dominguez has four homers in 10 days after going his first 33 games without one. Unfortunately, that is all he's done in the 10 days; he has just two other hits and no walks besides the homers, and his average has dipped to .239. Still, it's a whole lot better than no homers.

Jose Veras struck out two in a perfect ninth Monday to earn his seventh save.

Veras was awful this spring and in the first two weeks of the season, but he has seven saves in eight opportunities since April 19. That's more saves than full-time closers Chris Perez, Bobby Parnell and Steve Cishek have this season.
