David Ortiz had a three-run double in Friday's win over the Astros.

Ortiz only had one hit in five at-bats Friday, but he made it count with his bases-clearing double in the sixth, which capped a five-run rally for Boston. The veteran slugger has knocked in six runs over his past three games and is tied for 10th in the AL with 61 RBI.

Chris Carter hit a pair of solo homers in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.

Carter has two two-homer games over the past four days and has gone deep six times over his last six games. He's now tied for eighth in the AL with 19 homers, though he's done it with a .203 batting average and a .280 on-base percentage. In other words, he's pretty much doing what was expected of him.

Christian Vazquez had a breakout game Friday against the Astros, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored.

Vazquez had a ground-rule double to drive in a run in the fourth inning and later added a two-run double in the sixth. Both were to the opposite field. The 23-year-old is the first Red Sox player since Nomar Garciaparra in 1996 to have three hits in one of his first two major league games. While it was a big night for Vazquez, his defense and throwing arm are his big calling cards.

Jason Castro (arm) went 1-for-5 with a double and a strikeout in his return to action Friday.

Castro hasn't played since Sunday due to pain in the area of his left armpit. While there was some speculation that a swollen lymph node could be the cause, he has seen improvement after receiving treatment.

Nolan Reimold will undergo an MRI exam on Saturday to determine the severity of his calf injury.

It's after the Blue Jays get the results that they'll decide whether or not they need to make a roster move prior to Saturday's game. Jose Bautista is likely to get the start in right field on Saturday.
Jul 11 - 11:37 PM

David Price was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday due to illness.

The Rays are hoping that he'll feel well enough to take the hill on Sunday instead. Jake Odorizzi is expected to get the ball on Saturday, on what would be regular rest for him.
Jul 11 - 11:32 PM

Garrett Richards was brilliant yet again Friday, striking out eight batters over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Rangers.

Richards gave up five hits and walked a pair in the victory. He now owns a 1.27 ERA over his last eight starts and hasn't lost since May 30. While the 26-year-old wasn't selected to the All-Star team, he has pitched like one during the first half. He'll go into the break at 11-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings.
Jul 11 - 11:32 PM

Joe Smith tossed a scoreless ninth inning Friday against the Rangers for his 13th save of the season.

Smith didn't get any strikeouts, but he set the side down in order on 12 pitches and induced a pair of groundouts. The 30-year-old isn't your prototypical closer, but he's made it work so far. He has eight saves since June 24 and has tossed 9 1/3 scoreless innings during that time. He hasn't allowed a hit since June 26.
