Phillies recalled LHP Cesar Jimenez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He's taking Cliff Lee's (elbow) spot on the roster. Jimenez will likely only be up for a few days until the Phillies need a starter.
Jul 31 - 11:24 PM

Kevin Correia turned in a quality outing against the Royals, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings, but went home with a no-decision as the Twins lost on Thursday.

Last Friday's outing aside, Correia has made great strides lowering his ERA and that continued on Thursday. The right-hander allowed only five hits without issuing a walk while striking out four. His ERA now sits at 4.89 along with a 1.48 WHIP and a 58/31 K/BB ratio. Correia will face the Padres at home next Wednesday.
Jul 31 - 11:23 PM

Phillies placed LHP Cliff Lee on the 15-day disabled list with a left flexor pronator strain.

It's an aggravation of the injury that sidelined him for two months earlier this season. Lee might require surgery this time around, though that won't be known until he's examined Saturday. Either way, he's likely done for the season. The veteran lefty is owed approximately $45.8 million through the end of next year.
Jul 31 - 11:22 PM

Yordano Ventura navigated his way through seven innings, yielding only two runs (one earned) en route to his eighth win of the season on Thursday against the Twins.

As he has been at several points throughout the season, Ventura was a bit sloppy with his control, but was otherwise strong. The Twins drew three walks but managed only five hits -- including a solo home run from Danny Santana -- while Santana struck out seven. The 23-year-old has had a fine rookie campaign, sporting a 3.50 ERA with a 102/39 K/BB ratio. Ventura will toe the rubber in Arizona against the Diamondbacks next week.
Jul 31 - 11:21 PM

Casey Janssen worked around a two-out walk in the ninth inning, helping the Blue Jays defeat the Astros by a 6-5 margin on Thursday.

Janssen is happy to see July end, as he ends the month with a 5.56 ERA. He had a relatively easy ninth inning on Thursday, though. He has blown only two saves since making his season debut on May 12 and owns a 2.86 ERA with a 16/3 K/BB ratio.
Jul 31 - 11:16 PM

Eric Hosmer could miss the next month of action with a stress fracture in his right hand.

Hosmer was hit in the hand by a pitch over a week ago and never fully recovered, necessitating more tests. Unfortunately, an X-ray revealed the bad news. Hosmer has batted a disappointing .267/.312/.377 this season, but he's heated up this month. The Royals will now likely be forced to play Billy Butler at first base.
Jul 31 - 11:15 PM

Drew Hutchison was only able to make it through three innings, allowing four runs in a no-decision in Thursday's win against the Astros.

Hutchison was inefficient over the three frames, needing 61 pitches to see his way through. He allowed six hits -- including a home run to Jon Singleton -- while walking none and striking out two. The right-hander has seen his ERA skyrocket into the mid-4.00's recently, as it currently sits at 4.62. He'll try to rebound at home against the Orioles in his next start.
Jul 31 - 11:13 PM

Jake Buchanan allowed three runs -- including two on a pair of solo home runs -- in five innings but got a no-decision in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Buchanan was making his first start since June 21, having served several times out of the bullpen in the time since. He was starting in place of Jarred Cosart, who was traded to the Marlins prior to Thursday's 4 PM ET deadline. The right-hander yielded five hits, walked none, and struck out three. Brad Peacock, not Buchanan, will likely take Cosart's rotation spot long-term, however. In the off-chance the Astros have Buchanan make another start, he'll be on schedule to face the Phillies on the road on Wednesday.
