Alex Cobb (forearm) has been shut down from throwing after experiencing a setback.

Angels recalled C Carlos Perez from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Perez was off to a blazing start at the plate at Salt Lake, batting .361/.418/.556 with a couple homers. He'll be Chris Iannetta's backup, but with Iannetta really struggling we could see Perez receive a decent numbers of starts.
May 4 - 5:19 PM

Angels designated C Drew Butera for assignment.

Butera batted just .190/.190/.190 over 10 games. The Halos have decided to carry Carlos Perez as Chris Iannetta's backup instead.

Dodgers transferred LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for Matt West. Ryu wasn't going to return until at least late May, anyway, so this doesn't change his timetable. He's expected to throw live batting practice at some point this week.
May 4 - 5:07 PM

Dodgers acquired RHP Matt West from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations.

West had been designated for assignment. The 26-year-old holds a nice 17/4 K/BB ratio while allowing only one unearned run over 12 1/3 relief innings at Double-A this season.
May 4 - 5:05 PM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Monday.

It appears to simply be a day off. Aaron Hill is at second base in Owings' place.
May 4 - 4:59 PM

Phillies prospect Ben Lively had an excellent week for Double-A Reading, delivering 16 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.

Lively has exhibited impeccable control, allowing just two walks during that span. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his starts this season. Lively is prone to allowing home runs (he's given up 16 long balls since the start of 2014), but that's something he should be able to iron out with more experience.

Rangers recalled RHP Spencer Patton from Triple-A Round Rock.

Patton earned the promotion by posting a 0.96 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 9 1/3 relief innings at Round Rock. He'll pitch in middle relief with the Rangers.
