Orioles GM Dan Duquette said the team discussed a long-term deal with Jonathan Schoop over the winter.

Obviously nothing came of it, but Duquette said the team plans to revisit those talks at a later date. Schoop has had a breakout year for the Orioles, leading the team with 20 homers and 67 RBI. He was also the Orioles' lone All-Star representative. The 25-year-old is under contract through 2019, so there's still plenty of time for the sides to work something out.

Chad Bettis (cancer) will make his next rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll log between 60 and 65 pitches. The right-hander will make another start for the Isotopes on Friday and is expected to throw about 80 pitches in that outing. After that, he should be ready to join the Rockies' rotation. Bettis looked sharp in his first two rehab appearances, allowing just one run over 4 2/3 innings for Double-A Hartford. The 28-year-old missed the first half of the season while undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.

Justin Turner is not in the Dodgers' lineup Saturday against the Braves.

It's a rare day off for Turner, who has hit .304 with a homer and three RBI since the All-Star break. Logan Forsythe will man the hot corner in his place and hit fifth against Braves hurler Julio Teheran.

Miguel Cabrera (collarbone) is not in the Tigers' lineup Saturday against the Twins.

Cabrera left Friday night's game with a bruised collarbone and is still feeling the effects. Andrew Romine will draw the start at first base and bat eighth against Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson. Cabrera's X-rays came back negative and the Tigers are calling him day-to-day.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Matt Koch to Triple-A Reno.

The D'Backs had to make room for today's starter Anthony Banda. Koch was called up on Thursday but didn't see any game action. The 26-year-old carries an ugly 7.07 ERA over six minor league outings this year.

Pirates placed OF Gregory Polanco on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

The Pirates called up left-hander Steven Brault from Triple-A Indianapolis in the corresponding move. Polanco has been phenomenal this month, batting .387 with three homers and nine RBI since July 1. It's a tough blow for the Pirates' offense, though it's softened by the return of Starling Marte, who is back after serving an 80-game PED suspension.

Pirates recalled LHP Steven Brault from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Brault had been scheduled to start for Indianapolis on Saturday but instead he'll join the Pirates' bullpen. The 25-year-old logged a mediocre 4.86 ERA over eight outings including seven starts for Pittsburgh in 2016.

Scott Schebler is not in the Reds' lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Manager Bryan Price felt Saturday was a good opportunity to give Schebler a day off with the Marlins sending left-hander Chris O'Grady to the hill. With Schebler sitting, Patrick Kivlehan will draw the start in right field and bat eighth. Schebler has gone 2-for-24 with 10 strikeouts since the All-Star break and could probably use a day to clear his head.
