Cardinals released ILB Lorenzo Alexander.

Aug 31 - 3:10 PM

Cardinals released P Dave Zastudil.

Zastudil has been the Cards' punter since 2011, but was limited to two games by a groin injury last season. Going on 37, Zastudil has been punting since 2002.
Aug 31 - 3:09 PM

Cowboys waived WR Phil Bates, CB Robert Steeples, DT Carlif Taylor, P Tom Hornsey and LS Casey Kreiter.

Bates made one appearance for the Seahawks last season. Going on 26, the former undrafted free agent is running out of NFL chances.
Aug 31 - 2:58 PM

Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring) has resumed practicing.

Sanders didn't appear to be full go on Monday, but he's fully on track for the opener. Last year's WR7 will begin the year as a mid-range WR2 as the Broncos feel out new coach Gary Kubiak's system.
Aug 31 - 2:54 PM

Lions placed CB Chris Owens on injured reserve, ending his season.

Owens saw 500 snaps as the Chiefs' slot corner last season, but was never in the mix for nickel duties in Detroit. The 28-year-old veteran should eventually be cut loose with an injury settlement.
Aug 31 - 2:47 PM

Lions activated DT Haloti Ngata (hamstring) from the active/PUP list.

Coach Jim Caldwell hedged on Ngata's Week 1 status last week, but he's now on track for the opener. Headed into his age-31 season, Ngata has been mostly durable, never missing more than two games with injury.
Aug 31 - 2:45 PM

Lions activated RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') from the active/PUP list.

It's not a moment too soon for the 29-year-old veteran, who isn't facing heat from just change-of-pace back Ameer Abdullah, but early-down prospect Zach Zenner. Provided he's in game shape, Bell will be the Lions' primary chain mover in Week 1, but he can't afford a slow start like the one he had in 2014. Abdullah is talented enough to begin stealing work from the word go.
Aug 31 - 2:37 PM

Bears No. 2 QB Jimmy Clausen has a concussion.

Clausen should be ready for Week 1, but it means he'll miss valuable reps in Thursday's preseason finale. It's also a concern after Clausen was concussed on a vicious hit late last season. Clausen is one of the league's poorer backups, but he could end up making starts if Jay Cutler's career continues its downward trajectory.
