Diamondbacks placed SS Nick Ahmed on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.

Ahmed sustained a small fracture in his right hand after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. Ketel Marte has been called up and should see the bulk of work at shortstop moving forward, with Chris Owings likely to take on more work in the outfield. There is no current timetable for Ahmed's return to action, but one should clarify as he is further removed from the initial injury.

Diamondbacks recalled SS Ketel Marte from Triple-A Reno.

Marte earns the call up with Nick Ahmed landing on the disabled list due to a fractured hand. He was hitting a sizzling .338/.391/.514 with six homers and seven base thefts with Triple-A Reno in the Pacific Coast League prior to his promotion on Wednesday. He warrants fantasy consideration for those in deeper formats.

Gary Sanchez will hit third in Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

A few little shifts in the lineup by Joe Girardi. In addition to Sanchez hitting third -- just his second appearance at that spot in the lineup -- rookie phenom Aaron Judge will be hitting second. Expect these sorts of lineup gymnastics to continue in the short term as manager Joe Girardi tries his best to navigate his way through a tough injury stretch for the Yankees. Masahiro Tanaka will be starting for the Bombers in this one, to be opposed by Carlos Rodon (who is making his season debut).

Zack Cozart (quad) ran the bases on Wednesday.

Cozart was eligible to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday, but it looks like he is shooting for Thursday, now. Red manager Bryan Price said that the shortstop is very close to a return. All signs looking good. He had been trying to play through a quad injury suffered in mid-May, but ultimately succumbed to the disabled list retroactive to June 18.

Francisco Cervelli (concussion) has resumed light physical activity with work on a stationary bike.

Cervelli has already twice been placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list, most recently landing on it on June 22 due to the lingering aftereffects of a head injury suffered earlier in the month. There is no current timetable for his return.

Justin Nicolino is being moved from the rotation to the bullpen.

In five starts this season, Nicolino had been pitching to a 4.95 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. Those numbers are poor enough, but just as concerning for the Marlins, he had managed just 20 combined innings in those five outings. With Nicolino shifting to the bullpen, the Marlins will need a new starter for Saturday's game against the Brewers. Tom Koehler is one potential option on that front.

Aaron Sanchez (blister) told Blue Jays manager John Gibbons that he felt no discomfort after his Tuesday rehab start with High-A Dunedin.

Sanchez will make one more rehab start. So long as that one goes off without a hitch, he would then likely be ready to rejoin the Blue Jays. A recurring blister concern has sidelined him since May 19. Sanchez has made just five starts this season.
Jun 28 - 4:31 PM

Chris Heisey (biceps) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Heisey hit a setback in his rehab assignment at the beginning of the month, but he started hitting again without discomfort on Saturday. The outfielder has been on the shelf since May 24 with a right bicep rupture, one which he is attempting to play through rather than undergo surgery on.
