Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) recently was given a platelet-rich plasma injection.

He's hoping the shot helps speed along the healing process as he rehabs a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. DeSclafani is shut down from throwing until at least mid-April, at which point he will be re-evaluated.

Bronson Arroyo is expected to be part of the Reds' rotation.

He won't officially be on the Opening Day roster, though, as Arroyo will make a minor league start on Sunday. That means Cody Reed will likely get an early-season start, although he'll be available out of the bullpen initially. Arroyo could make his season debut on April 8 in St. Louis. The 40-year-old will be making his first start in the majors since June of 2014.

X-rays on Enrique Hernandez's right wrist turned up negative.

He'll probable be sore for a day or two but will be fine. Hernandez is batting just .219 with a .637 OPS this spring, but he should still have an Opening Day roster spot.

Jayson Werth socked a two-run home run against the Marlins on Tuesday.

Werth has had a rough go of it this spring with just nine hits in 48 at-bats, but six of those base knocks have come over his last seven games so perhaps he's heating up a bit. Slated to turn 38 in May, Werth is entering the final year of his seven-year, $126 million contract.

Steven Wright held the Pirates to one run across four innings of work on Tuesday.

The knuckleballer issued three walks and recorded only two strikeouts, but he was able to limit the damage to a single tally. Wright was a little behind schedule to begin spring training due to a nagging injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder, but he's gone out and put up a 0.68 ERA over 13 1/3 frames this spring to erase any doubt about his health.

Drew Hutchison was lit up for nine runs on 10 hits and two walks over just 3 2/3 frames against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

This isn't the last impression Hutchison was looking to make before the Pirates pick a No. 5 starter. Six of the runs came in the first inning, and the righty was touched up for three more in the fourth. Hutchison has been absolutely dreadful over his last three starts this spring, pushing his Grapefruit League ERA up to 10.02. It would be a surprise if he cracks the rotation at this point.

Mookie Betts ripped a two-RBI double and a two-run homer on Tuesday versus the Pirates.

Betts took Drew Hutchison deep in the first inning and then got to the right-hander again in the fourth when he plated a pair with a two-bagger. The outfielder has belted two home runs this spring and has batted .340 with a .981 OPS. He appears ready to get the season started.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is considering batting Nick Castellanos lower in the batting order rather than second.

Castellanos has been hitting second regularly this spring and has been viewed as the favorite to stay in the spot for the regular season. It might still happen, but Ausmus is a little worried about the middle of the order while J.D. Martinez (foot) is out. That could mean batting him sixth instead of second, which really doesn't make sense. Hopefully Ausmus comes to his senses.
