Fred Jackson had five carries for 48 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo's third preseason game.

Jackson was making his preseason debut after missing two weeks with a hamstring injury. He started with all four of Buffalo's running backs sidelined, but played only the first quarter. Jackson's biggest play was a 41-yard carry to open the game. Jackson is a good bet to open the season as LeSean McCoy's backup.

E.J. Manuel competed 2-of-2 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo's third preseason game.

Manuel started and played the first two series. He led the Bills to two scoring drives, including a 67-yard touchdown to a wide-open Charles Clay. Manuel is now up to 15-of-24 passing for 271 yards and three touchdowns through three preseason games. Matt Cassel was the No. 2 quarterback through Buffalo's rotation.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 2-of-4 passes for 30 yards in the Steelers' third preseason game.

Roethlisberger was removed after the first series. He should finish the preseason 16-of-21 for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Roethlisberger is locked in as a midrange QB1.

Raiders waived S Jonathan Dowling.

Dowling was reportedly cut due to maturity issues. A plus-sized safety with 4.52 speed, Dowling could draw interest on waivers.

Rookie LB Tony Steward suffered a knee injury in the Bills third preseason game.

Steward was immediately ruled out for the game. The Bills can't afford to lose Steward after Ty Powell's season-ending knee injury. Steward is the favorite to back up Preston Brown and Nigel Bradham.

Stephon Gilmore is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

Gilmore was shaken up on a collision with Steelers WR Markus Wheaton. He walked off under his own power, but was immediately taken to the locker room. Gilmore will have 15 days to get cleared for Week 1 if he gets placed in the concussion protocol.

Redskins signed LT Trent Williams to a five-year, $66 million extension.

The deal includes $43.25 million guaranteed. Williams will average $13.2 million annually, placing him ahead of Tyron Smith as the highest-paid left tackle in the league. It's the second big-money extension given out by GM Scot McCloughan after locking up OLB Ryan Kerrigan. The Redskins should have two offensive-line cornerstones to build around with Williams and No. 5 overall pick Brandon Scherff. A three-time Pro Bowler, Williams is signed through 2020, his age-32 season.

Titans rookie RB David Cobb (calf) is week to week.

Cobb should miss the rest of the preseason. He isn’t a lock to be ready for Week 1. Cobb is merely a late-round flier.
