Dariel Alvarez has been promoted to Triple-A Norfolk.

Alvarez earned the bump by batting .309/.332/.487 with 14 home runs, 20 doubles, and 68 RBI in 91 games at Double-A Bowie. The 25-year-old outfielder landed an $800,000 signing bonus from the O's in 2013 after defecting from Cuba. He could be a factor by early 2015.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are targeting Padres starter Ian Kennedy.

Anaheim has also been in talks with the still-under-construction San Diego front office about closer Huston Street. Kennedy, 29, has registered an exceptional 3.47 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 133/34 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season for the Padres. According to the pitching metric xFIP, he ranks better this year than guys like Max Scherzer, Adam Wainwright, and Jeff Samardzija. Kennedy is arbitration-eligible through 2015, so the Friars will probably want a fairly substantial return package.

Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next Wednesday.

Jimenez, who posted a rough 4.52 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 18 first-half starts, might be asked to spend the remainder of July in the minors while the Orioles see what Kevin Gausman can do. Ubaldo landed on the disabled list retroactive to July 6 with a right ankle sprain. He signed a four-year, $50 million free agent contract with Baltimore over the winter.

Domonic Brown (illness) fouled out as a pinch-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.

Brown was held out of the Phillies' lineup for the second consecutive game due to a minor illness. He should be 100 percent when Philly resumes play on Friday. The 26-year-old left fielder batted just .227/.279/.329 with six home runs in a highly disappointing first half.

Chris Davis blasted a two-run homer on Sunday, powering the Orioles to a 3-1 victory over the Yankees in a rain-shortened five-inning game.

Davis connected on an opposite field two-run blast off Chase Whitley in the fourth inning, getting the O's on the board and proving to provide the margin of victory. He finished the night 1-for-2, finishing the first half of the season with a disappointing .199/.309/.391 line to go along with 15 long balls and 48 RBI.
Jul 14 - 12:25 AM

Jonathan Schoop went 1-for-2 and drove home a run in Sunday's victory over the Yankees.

Schoop plated J.J. Hardy as part of a three-run uprising off Chase Whitley in the fourth inning. He has struggled at the dish through the first half of the season, slashing just .221/.259/.324 with six homers and 22 RBI.

Kevin Gausman defeated the Yankees in a rain-shortened contest on Sunday night, surrendering just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.

The five innings constituted the entirety of the ballgame as the storms wouldn't let up enough to allow for a completion. Gausman punched out two without walking a batter on the night. The only damage against him came on a leadoff homer from Brett Gardner. He now owns a 4-2 record, 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings with the Orioles on the season.
Jul 14 - 12:19 AM

Brett Gardner blasted a leadoff homer in Sunday's loss to the Orioles.

Gardner launched the fourth pitch of the game from Kevin Gausman over the wall in right to get the Yankees on the board in a hurry. Sadly, that would be the extent of their offense on the rain-shortened night. He finishes the first half of the season hitting .279/.353/.424 with nine homers and 37 RBI.
