GM Steve Keim said G Jonathan Cooper is dealing with a "significant" turf toe injury.

Cooper is back in practice as he tries to figure out how to play through the pain. The No. 7 overall pick in 2013 has lost the starting left guard job to Ted Larsen. "It's sad because we all have such high expectations," Keim said. "I'm disappointed in the injuries; I'm not disappointed in the player."

Cardinals GM Steve Keim said he hasn't talked about ILB Daryl Washington "for a minute" since his suspension.

Keim and the Cardinals are steamed at Washington for getting a year-long ban as a result of a marijuana violation. "You can accept a player being injured because that's going to happen, but when off-field issues come about, those are unacceptable," Keim said. The GM went on to say that they'll discuss bringing Washington back after the season, but sounded skeptical that he can stay out of trouble long enough to get reinstated. The league office hasn't even handed down punishment for the aggravated assault charges Washington plead guilty to.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says Markus Wheaton "seems to be a more accomplished route runner" than Mike Wallace was in his second NFL season.

The comparisons between Wheaton and Wallace started during the 2013 pre-draft process and grew once the Steelers selected him. Now Wheaton has been handed the every-down "X" role, the one Wallace went 60-1,257-10 at as an NFL sophomore and the one Emmanuel Sanders posted a 67-740-6 line last year. There's certainly bust potential here as Wheaton did not appear to be on the same page with Ben Roethlisberger during the preseason (5-67-1 on eight targets and 111 snaps), but the opportunity is big. He's a boom or bust flier pick.

The Redskins have decided not to add rookie RB Lache Seastrunk to their practice squad.

Not only did Seastrunk clear waivers, but the team that drafted him in the sixth round doesn't even want him on their 10-man practice squad. Instead, Chris Thompson gets the nod. Seastrunk's raw speed couldn't mask his woes in both pass protection and route running.

Browns coach Mike Pettine hinted at disappointment with rookie RB Terrance West.

"Some guys kind of say, 'OK, I made it. I'm on the roster,' but to me, they need to accelerate, not decelerate," said Pettine. Per the Cleveland Plain Dealer, West has been "slow adjusting" to OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-run game, allowing Ben Tate to run away with the every-down back job. West will open the year as no more than Tate's handcuff. He only has late-round value in fantasy.

The Rams will not sign free agent DE Michael Sam to their practice squad.

Sam cleared waivers Sunday. St. Louis will announce its ten-man practice squad on Monday, and Sam won't be on it. The 249th overall pick in May's draft played well enough in preseason games to earn a look elsewhere, but to this point Sam has generated no known interest since being waived by the Rams.

The Titans are expected to sign free agent K Ryan Succop "as early as Monday."

Succop would replace Travis Coons, who temporarily won a training camp battle over Maikon Bonani. The Titans are scraping the bottom of the kicker pile after Succop finished 2013 22-of-28 on field goal tries with Kansas City.

Chargers RG Jeromey Clary underwent an additional hip surgery "about a week ago," and may miss the entire 2014 season.

He's now had two hip operations in a three-month span. Clary will open the season on reserve/PUP, and likely stay there for all of 2014. Johnnie Troutman is now San Diego's starting right guard after beating out rookie Chris Watt. Pro Football Focus gave Troutman plus run-blocking grades -- and Clary miserable ones -- so this could actually be an upgrade for Ryan Mathews.
