Yovani Gallardo was hammered in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays, allowing five runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Gallardo struggled badly with his command, walking five and striking out five on the afternoon. He made it through the first four innings unscathed, but ran into a buzzsaw in the fifth. After a strikeout to begin to begin the inning, he gave up a homer to Devon Travis, then a pair of walks, a two-run double to Edwin Encarnacion and an intentional walk before departing. He'll look to improve upon a troublesome 5.70 ERA and 1.67 WHIP when he takes on the White Sox in Chicago on Friday.

Tony Watson is expected to serve as the Pirates' closer in the wake of Saturday's trade sending Mark Melancon to the Nationals.

Watson has been nothing short of exceptional over six seasons in the Pirates bullpen, compiling a 2.48 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 8.1 K/9. He has five career saves under his belt already and should pile them up in a hurry over the final few months of the season. Should he falter, Neftali Feliz has prior closing experience and could be considered for the ninth-inning gig.

Ryan Braun (side) is back in the Brewers' lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Braun had missed the previous two games with side tightness. He'll play left field and bat third against Bucs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Braun has been on a serious tear since the All-Star break, hitting .381 over his last 42 at-bats. He carries a .321 average for the season with 14 HR, 46 RBI and 12 steals.

Athletics acquired OF Brett Eibner from the Royals for OF Billy Burns.

Eibner was optioned back to Triple-A on Friday with the return of Lorenzo Cain. He hit just .231/.286/.423 with three homers and 10 RBI in 85 plate appearances with the Royals. He adds organizational outfield depth for the A's.

Royals acquired OF Billy Burns from the Athletics for OF Brett Eibner.

The speedy outfielder fell out of favor with the Athletics after opening the year as their starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. He hit just .234/.270/.303 with 14 stolen bases before his demotion to Triple-A. The Royals will certainly find ways to utilize his blazing speed.
Jul 30 - 3:57 PM

Aledmys Diaz is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Saturday.

It appears to be just a routine day of rest for the hard-hitting shortstop. Greg Garcia is starting in his place and will bat leadoff for the Cardinals on Saturday against Collin Rea and the Marlins.
Jul 30 - 3:52 PM

Marlins sent INF/OF Don Kelly outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

The Marlins designated him for assignment earlier in the week but he passed through waivers unclaimed. He'll continue to provide organizational depth for the Marlins and should get another opportunity with the big league club before the end of the season.
Jul 30 - 3:44 PM

Pirates acquired LHP Taylor Hearn and LHP Felipe Rivero from the Nationals for RHP Mark Melancon.

Hearn, a 21-year-old left-hander, registered a 2.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 39/13 K/BB ratio across 29 innings between the Rookie League Nationals and Class-A Hagerstown this season. He has a power arm, but is still in the process of developing and refining his secondary offerings.
