Jon Lester struck out 10 batters while yielding just one run over seven innings in Friday's 6-1 win over the Braves.

Lester ran into trouble in his final frame, loading the bases with nobody out with the help of a bunt that he misplayed. However, he got back-to-back strikeouts and then a groundout to escape trouble. Although he wasn't credited with a victory, it was another terrific showing for the veteran lefty. Lester has recorded 10 strikeouts in two of his last three starts and will take a 1.83 ERA and 33/7 K/BB ratio into next week's showdown with the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Aaron Blair allowed just one run over six frames but was hung with a no-decision in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

Blair took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth before Javier Baez led off with a double. The Cubs scored their long run off Blair that inning before the offense came alive late. Blair allowed just two hits on the day, although he walked three and struck out just three. He's given up just four runs over his first 11 1/3 big league innings but also has a 4/5 K/BB ratio. Blair gets the Mets on the road next week.

Matt Szczur made his lone plate appearance Friday count, smacking a grand slam in a victory over the Braves.

The Cubs had taken a lead on an Anthony Rizzo RBI single just before Szczur, who blew things open with a drive into the Wrigley Field bleachers in left field. Szczur has been a quality extra for the Cubbies this month, hitting .333/.400/.593 across 27 at-bats.

Freddie Freeman singled and launched a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

Freeman belted a 3-0 pitch from Jon Lester deep into the Wrigley Field bleachers in right field in the fourth inning. That got the scoring going, but the Cubbies rallied late with five runs in the eighth. Freeman is really starting to heat up, batting .444 with two homers over his last seven games.

Rockies recalled RHP Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Charlotte.

Kahnle held a 3.00 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio over his first nine relief innings for Charlotte. He's taking Daniel Webb's (elbow) spot in the bullpen.

Matt Garza (lat) resumed a throwing program on Friday.

He just did a little playing catch, as he's at the beginning of a long rehab process. Garza was moved to the 60-day disabled list on Thursday, which means he's not eligible to return until June.

George Kontos (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday.

It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain. Kontos should be ready for a rehab assignment before long.
