Aroldis Chapman worked around a ninth-inning walk to grab his 24th save of the season in Thursday's win against the Marlins.

Chapman walked Casey McGehee to begin the bottom of the ninth, but instantly erased his mistake with a ground ball double play. He fanned Marcell Ozuna to end the ballgame, extending his major league record for consecutive appearances with a strikeout to 46. Chapman is 24-for-26 in save opportunities with a 2.10 ERA and a 68/12 K/BB ratio.

Giancarlo Stanton homered for the 25th time this season, his only hit in four at-bats in a losing effort against the Reds on Thursday.

Stanton put the Marlins up 1-0 in the first inning with a line drive over the left field fence off of Johnny Cueto. It was the only damage the Marlins could do against the Reds' right-hander. Stanton has homered in back-to-back games, and has a total of four since the All-Star break. He's slashing .293/.394/.541 with 72 RBI on the season.

Michael Bourn (hamstring) did some light running on the field Thursday.

Bourn will eventually progress to running the bases once he's comfortable. He'll be ready for a rehab assignment at that point, though it's still totally up in the air as to when that will come. The outfielder has been out since early July with a left hamstring strain.
Jul 31 - 9:44 PM

Marlins released INF Miguel Tejada.

Tejada was inked to a minor league deal in May but played in only four games for Double-A Jacksonville before going down with a right shoulder injury. He was close to returning, but the Marlins decided to go ahead and cut the 40-year-old loose. Tejada remains unlikely to play in a major league game again.
Jul 31 - 9:40 PM

Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) will be shut down for at least the next two weeks.

The Nationals haven't officially commented on the severity of Zimmerman's right hamstring strain, but it's been reported that it's a Grade 3 strain and he's likely out at least 6-8 weeks. He'll be re-evaluated in two weeks, but it's possible his season is over. The Nats traded for Asdrubal Cabrera Thursday to help shore up their infield situation.

Marlins designated LHP Donnie Joseph for assignment.

The Marlins needed to clear space on the 40-man roster after Thursday's trade with the Astros. Joseph was acquired via trade from the Royals last month after being designated for assignment. He didn't appear in a game for Miami.
Jul 31 - 9:12 PM

Giants sent INF Tony Abreu outright to Triple-A Fresno.

Abreu cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He can elect free agency if he wants and seems likely to do so given that he opted out of his deal earlier this month before being re-signed.
Jul 31 - 9:03 PM

Dodgers sent LHP Scott Elbert outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Elbert had been designated for assignment, but he's cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The lefty has posted a 4.26 ERA over 15 rehab appearances while working his way back from elbow surgery.
