Giants left-handed pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia struck out six in six innings on Friday in his return to the mound after being hit by a line drive earlier in the week.

Mejia showed no ill effects, allowing just four hits, one walk, and one run for Double-A Richmond. It appears that the Giants were being cautious with one of their top prospects. Mejia has a 3.75 ERA and 1.083 WHIP for the season with a 9.0 K/9, and could see time in San Francisco as soon as the end of the 2014 season.

Ryan Ludwick is expected miss a few games after fouling a ball off his big toe in Friday's victory over the Cubs.

X-Rays came back negative, but he's still very sore. Chris Heisey is getting the start in his place on Saturday and will see the bulk of the action while Ludwick is sidelined.

Delino DeShields suffered a fractured cheekbone after being hit in the face by a pitch during Friday's game at Double-A Corpus Christi.

No word yet on the possible recovery time from the gruesome injury. The 21-year-old speedster is hitting .259/.385/.426 with two homers, four RBI and six stolen bases in his first 14 contests.

Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect Chris Anderson tossed six shutout innings for High-A Rancho Cucamonga, striking out seven.

Anderson allowed just two hits (both singles), but walked four batters. His 10.4 K/9 are great, but his 8.6 BB/9 is troubling, as it leads to a 1.841 WHIP for the season. Anderson has the potential to be a solid mid-rotation workhorse starter, but his command is bordering on unacceptable and he will have to make significant improvements before he can be discussed by the indomitable Vin Scully.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Saturday that Sean Burnett (elbow) threw an "outstanding" bullpen session the other day.

While it's an encouraging sign, there remains no clear timetable for when the left-hander will be cleared to return to the Angels bullpen. With the trouble that they've had in the late innings, they could use him back as quickly as possible.

Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.

It's nothing more than a day of rest for the All-Star backstop with a day game after a night game. Tony Cruz will get the start behind the plate and hit eighth for the Cardinals.
Apr 19 - 11:27 AM

Jake Arrieta (shoulder) will make what he hope's will be his final minor league rehab start with High-A Daytona on Monday.

If all goes well, he could rejoin the Cubs rotation over the weekend in Milwaukee. He's expected to displace Carlos Villanueva from the rotation once he returns.
Apr 19 - 11:26 AM

Orioles right-handed pitcher Suk-min Yoon went 5 2/3 innings on Friday, allowing eight hits and two runs (1 earned) for Triple-A Norfolk.

Yoon sports a 9.49 ERA and batters are hitting .417/.462/.633 against him, so the relatively small investment made by the Orioles in the KBO alum looks like it won't have much of a return in the near term.
