Andrelton Simmons has been diagnosed with a sprained right thumb.
Simmons was injured on Saturday when he jammed the thumb on a play in left field. It looks like he'll avoid the disabled list for now, as the Braves are hopeful he'll only miss a few games. Daniel Castro is filling in at shortstop Sunday.
Billy Hamilton is not in the Reds' lineup Sunday.
It's a routine day off. Marlon Byrd has slid over to center field in Hamilton's place, while Skip Schumaker gets a start in left.
Joey Votto is absent from the Reds' lineup Sunday.
He's simply getting a day of rest. Ivan DeJesus is handling first base while Votto sits.
Dee Gordon is not in the Marlins' lineup Sunday.
He's just getting a day off. Miguel Rojas is filling in for Gordon at second base.
Aramis Ramirez is not in the Pirates' lineup Sunday.
It's a routine day off for Ramirez, who has just four hits in his first 30 at-bats with the Pirates. Sean Rodriguez is at third base.
Mike Moustakas is not in the Royals' lineup Sunday due to a sore knee.
He was hit by a pitch in the knee on Saturday. Moose is expected to be fine, but the club wanted to give him a little rest just to be safe. Cheslor Cuthbert will start in Moustakas' place at third base.
J.D. Martinez (knee) is back in the Tigers' lineup Sunday.
Martinez had to leave Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his left knee. X-rays came back clean, though, and he's feeling well enough to give it a go.
Alfredo Simon's next scheduled start will be pushed back to Saturday due to a lingering groin injury.
Simon first tweaked the groin in his July 25 outing and it nagged at him during his start this past Thursday. He told Tigers manager Brad Ausmus he could pitch through it, but the skipper wants to be careful. "I'm concerned about it," Ausmus said. "And I don't get concerned about many things. Just because he felt good in his bullpen before his last start and then didn't look real good, so we'll give him these extra days. ... Obviously, if we have to adjust, we will."
