Hector Neris gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning to take a blown save and a loss Monday against the Nationals.

Neris has been one of the NL's best relievers this year, but he didn't have it tonight and Phillies manager Pete Mackanin probably should have realized that before allowing him to face seven batters (three of whom he walked). Neris, who leads the NL with 27 appearances, saw his ERA jump from 1.29 to 2.20.

Jeff Locke pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game as the Pirates drubbed the Marlins 10-0 on Monday.

Locke hadn't completed any of his previous 100 major league starts. The left-hander was looking like the obvious choice to be bounced from the Pirates rotation when the team promoted Jameson Taillon or Tyler Glasnow, but this certainly complicates things a bit. He lowered his ERA from 5.08 to 4.33 tonight. That's better than what Jon Niese (4.42), Francisco Liriano (4.63) or Juan Nicasio (4.79 (or 4.21 if Andrew McCutchen hadn't whined about an error)) have done.
May 30 - 10:06 PM

Justin Nicolino dropped to 2-3 after giving up three runs in five innings Monday against the Pirates.

Nicolino is just treading water since his addition to the Marlins rotation, amassing a 4.50 ERA and a 16/12 K/BB ratio in 40 innings. He can probably maintain his current pace with his ability to generate grounders, but his ceiling is awfully limited.
May 30 - 10:03 PM

Gregor Polanco went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Monday's rout of the Marlins.

It was his first career grand slam. Polanco has been the Pirates' best outfielder this year, batting .315 with eight homers and an NL-high 18 doubles. He's not going to keep hitting quite this well, but he's probably here to stay as an All-Star-type performer.
May 30 - 10:01 PM

David Freese went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI against the Marlins on Monday.

Freese lost some playing time when Jung Ho Kang came off the disabled list, but he's been productive when he's gotten his chances as a first baseman against left-handers and occasional third baseman versus righties. Still, the playing time isn't there right now to make him useful in mixed leagues.
May 30 - 9:59 PM

Derek Dietrich came off the bench Monday and went 0-for-2 against the Pirates.

The Marlins were planning on giving Dietrich the night off after he was hit in the head by a foul ball on Sunday, but he had been cleared to play and he entered the game at second base after Miguel Rojas was hurt.
May 30 - 9:57 PM

Marco Estrada blanked the Yankees for eight innings, allowing just three hits, in a victory Monday.

Estrada was at 108 pitches after eight, so he wasn't allowed to go for his first career complete game. He's been one of the AL's better pitchers the last two years, but since debuting with the Nationals in 2008, he's never finished any of his 109 career starts.
May 30 - 9:47 PM

Drew Storen got two outs with a two-run lead for his third save of the year Monday against the Yankees.

The Jays didn't want to use Roberto Osuna tonight, so they turned to Aaron Loup to start the ninth in a 4-0 game. After he surrendered a two-run homer with one out, Storen took over and retired two of the three batters he faced. Storen has picked up three saves this year, but his ERA stands at 6.75.
