Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Brewers are not expected to hire Ron Gardenhire as their next manager.
With Ron Roenicke getting the axe late on Sunday, there have been rumblings that Gardenhire could be his successor, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Craig Counsell seems like an option that is gaining steam and could be the mystery man announced on Monday.
Dodgers designated RHP Scott Baker for assignment.
The Dodgers are expected to recall an extra bullpen arm to fulfill his spot on the active roster. Baker posted a 5.73 ERA over 11 innings with the Dodgers. There's a decent chance that he'll attract interest from elsewhere.
Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres are expected to recall Austin Hedges from Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
Brock notes that Hedges will join the team in San Francisco in time for Monday's series opener. Widely regarded as one of the top defensive catching prospects in all of baseball, it's unclear how much action Hedges will see with the Padres. The 22-year-old was hitting .343/.413/.552 with two homers and 15 RBI in 20 games at El Paso.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Twins have had internal discussions about hitting Joe Mauer leadoff.
With his ability to get on base and work a walk, combined with the disappearance of his power in recent years, the idea makes sense. He's off to a nice start hitting out of the three-hole though, slashing .302/.382/.396 with no homers and 13 RBI.
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin announced Sunday evening that the team has fired manager Ron Roenicke.
The organization will name Roenicke's successor on Monday. The Brewers exercised his option for the 2016 season only six weeks ago despite the fact that they stumbled down the stretch in 2014. Milwaukee currently own the worst record in the National League at 7-18 and the club sits 11 1/2 games back in the National League Central standings.
Dodgers acquired 1B Andy Wilkins from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
Wilkins was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays earlier in the week. The 26-year-old slugger will provide organizational depth for the Dodgers. To create room on the 40-man roster, Scott Baker was designated for assignment.
Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports that the Dodgers plan to designate Scott Baker for assignment.
After using seven relievers in Sunday's 13-inning affair the Dodgers will need a fresh arm in the bullpen and it seems Baker is the odd-man out. He posted a troublesome 5.73 ERA in his 11 innings for the Dodgers. The veteran right-hander should attract interest elsewhere from team's in need of rotation depth.
Blue Jays recalled RHP Chad Jenkins from Triple-A Buffalo.
The 27-year-old is the next in a long line of relievers that the Blue Jays will trot out this season. He posted a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10/4 K/BB ratio over 18 2/3 innings at Buffalo before being recalled.
