Peyton Manning's father expects him to reach a decision on his NFL future "maybe in the next week or two."

"He’s given a lot of thought to it," Archie Manning said. "(I) think he’s taken a good evaluation of where he is physically." Most signs have pointed toward Manning returning for a fourth season in Denver.

According to the NFL's internal review, both concussions and torn ACLs were down in 2014.

Per the league, there were 202 concussions diagnosed in 2014, down from 229 in 2013, and 261 in 2012. Torn ACLs checked in at 49. There were 57 in 2013. Although the concussion numbers are encouraging, that's still a massive number, and there's no way of knowing how many went undiagnosed. As concussion awareness has grown, it's possible players have gotten more clever about concealing them. The crisis isn't anywhere near over.

The Cardinals aren't counting on suspended ILB Daryl Washington for 2015.

Substance-abuse violations got Washington banned for all of 2014, but he's yet to be disciplined by the league for his domestic-violence conviction. "Last year, we learned about his suspension after free agency," said team president Michael Bidwill. "This year we are going to plan to make sure we address all the issues not knowing whether Daryl will be back for part of next season or all of next season." Washington should be facing at least a six-game ban. His current year-long suspension runs through late May.

Free agent RB Jonathan Dwyer has been placed on probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Dwyer was originally charged with felony aggravated assault after he was accused of assaulting his wife last summer. Despite the slap on the wrist from the law, Dwyer's NFL career is almost certainly over. Going on 26, Dwyer is the owner of a lifetime 4.2 YPC. That's not worth teams taking on the stigma of a domestic abuser.

49ers hired ex-Eagles VP of player personnel Tom Gamble as senior personnel executive.

Fresh off losing a power struggle with Chip Kelly, Gamble returns to the team he worked for from 2005-13. Gamble has 28 years of NFL experience, and was a hot GM candidate when he headed to Philly in 2013. Gamble was considered a big part of the 49ers' draft success during his time in the Bay Area. Bringing Gamble back is one of the few positive moves the 49ers have made this offseason.

ESPN's Mike Triplett suggests the Saints could be interested in impending free agent CB Byron Maxwell.

Triplett is just connecting the dots. He's not reporting he's heard the Saints are ready to make a run at Seattle's right cornerback. Rotoworld's No. 1 free agent corner, Maxwell did excellent work opposite Richard Sherman this season, and gets a chance to shine on the national stage Sunday. Corner is a major need for the Saints, but their cap situation is one of the league's worst. If Maxwell escapes Seattle, New Orleans is an unlikely landing spot.

Chargers hired ex-Falcons DC Mike Nolan as LBs coach.

Nolan has been either coordinating defenses or serving as a head coach every year since 2002. His past two Falcons units were abysmal, but his personnel was a major issue. He's a nice addition to DC John Pagano's staff.

Free agent DeMarco Murray says he hasn't started thinking about his contract yet, but left open the possibility that he won't be back with the Cowboys.

"You never know what’s going to happen, we’ll see what happens," Murray said in a radio interview. "But all you can do is hope for the best." The early signs suggest Murray will be allowed to walk, but owner/GM Jerry Jones has always been extremely reluctant to part with home-grown talent.
