Javier Baez (elbow) is not in the Cubs' lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Contreras was held out of the lineup before Monday's rainout and will rest for the first game of the doubleheader before starting in the nightcap. Chris Gimenez will start behind the plate and catch Tyler Chatwood.

MLB issued a $1,000 fine to Joe Musgrove for intentionally hitting Chris Owings of the Diamondbacks with a pitch last Monday.

Musgrove threw at Owings in response to his teammate Josh Harrison getting plunked. Usually pitchers will just say to the media that a pitch got away, but Musgrove admitted after the game that he did it on purpose. He said Monday that he doesn't plan to appeal the fine, but that he might be more careful about his comments in the future.

Marcus Stroman (shoulder) is expected to make his return from the disabled list this weekend against the Angels.

Stroman had his rehab start rained out Monday with Double-A New Hampshire, but he was still able to throw a simulated game, clearing the way for his return. It's unclear how far the Blue Jays plan to push him in his first start back. Given his struggles prior to his DL stint, it's understandable if fantasy owners decide to wait and see.

Brayan Peña has announced his retirement.

George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press reported late last week that Pena would manage one of the Tigers' Gulf Coast League teams, so Peña took to Twitter to confirm that his playing career is indeed done. The 36-year-old played 12 seasons in the majors while batting .259/.299/.351 with 468 career hits and 23 homers. He made stops with the Royals, Braves, Reds, Cardinals, and Tigers. He spent all of last season with the Royals' Triple-A affiliate and failed to make the Tigers' Opening Day roster this spring, but he's now ready to make the next step in his career.

Marcus Stroman's (shoulder) rehab start with Double-A New Hampshire on Monday was rained out.

It appears that the start might not be rescheduled, as Stroman wrote on Twitter late Monday night that his next start will be in the big leagues. Stroman allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings in his first rehab outing with High-A Dunedin last Wednesday. He only got stretched out to 59 pitches, so he could be limited in his first start back. Stroman posted an ugly 7.71 ERA over seven starts to begin the year before going down with shoulder fatigue in early May.

Mike Trout went 2-for-3 with two walks in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Here's a fun stat, presented by ESPN's Jon Sciambi. There have been 12 games this year where Trout has reached four-or-more times in 2018. There have been 11 games this year where Trout has gone hitless. His on-base percentage rises to .464, and he's slugging a ridiculous .688 on the season. He's ridiculous.

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in a win over the Angels on Monday.

Ahmed also walked and scored another run in the victory. The homer was a solo blast that went off of Mike Trout's glove, and it gives the 28-year-old 10 on the season. The strong game ups Ahmed's line on the year to .227/.289/.431 over 67 games.
