Allen Craig went 0-for-4 on Thursday and is without an RBI in his last eight games.

Craig's rep is that he's a stud with RISP. However, he isn't getting many opportunities there with the Cardinals in a collective slump and he hasn't capitalized when he does get a shot, going 3-for-19 with no extra-base hits. In today's loss, he led off the inning in three of his four at-bats. Fantasy leaguers should stick with him, of course, but it's been a pretty brutal start.

The Rangers are hopeful that Shin-Soo Choo (ankle) can avoid the disabled list.

Choo hasn't played since he injured his left ankle while awkwardly stepping on the first base bag on Monday, but X-rays came back negative an an MRI ruled out a high ankle sprain. He has reported some improvement since, so things are looking up. Still, it's unclear when he'll be able to return to the starting lineup.

Tony Cingrani held the Pirates to one run in six innings and struck out seven in the Reds' victory Thursday.

Cingrani isn't pitching deep into games, but that's OK; the Reds need to limit his innings a bit to keep him on the mound through September and, hopefully, into October. He's now 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA. He's fanned 30 batters in 28 1/3 innings, which is still down a bit from last year's NL-best rate.

Kevin Kouzmanoff will fly ball to Dallas to have his back examined by specialist Dr. Drew Dosset.

Kouzmanoff left Tuesday's game with back tightness and hasn't improved as much as hoped, so the Rangers want to get him checked out. The 32-year-old has a history of back issues. Fortunately for the Rangers, Adrian Beltre (quad) is expected to come off the DL on Friday.

Jonathan Broxton notched his fourth save in four chances Thursday with a scorless ninth against the Pirates.

Broxton still hasn't allowed a run in five innings since coming off the DL. He's now pitched on back-to-back days, so we doubt the Reds will want him going again on Friday. Unfortunately, the other quality option in the pen, Sam LeCure, has also worked the last two days, leaving things quite up in the air for Friday. LeCure is more likely than Broxton to pitch in three straight, but it's no sure thing.

Neftali Feliz has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Round Rock with arm inflammation.

Feliz was checked out by a specialist on Thursday and does not have any major structural damage. The Rangers will continue to treat the 25-year-old with care.

Brandon Cumpton took a tough loss after allowing two runs and four hits in seven innings Thursday against the Reds.

Cumpton walked just one, but he did hit three batters. Of course, those don't count against his WHIP, which was a nice 0.71 for the game. He should remain a useable NL-only pitcher for as long as he's needed in the rotation.

Pedro Figueroa has been diagnosed with a torn UCL and is likely to undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.

That was the diagnosis Thursday from Dr. Keith Meister. Figueroa has already been placed on the disabled list and is likely to be sidelined through early 2015.
