Jordan Zimmermann lost for the first time since June 17 after the Marlins scored three times in six innings on Tuesday.

Two of the runs scored on outs, but Zimmermann allowed eight hits and two walks (both intentional) while striking out only two. He held the opposition to three or fewer runs in six of seven starts during his undefeated streak. As a result, he has a 3.36 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and a 92/23 K/BB ratio over 128 2/3 innings. Zimmermann will look to get back in the win column when he squares off against the Mets in New York next.

Jose Fernandez improved to 4-0 after tossing six innings of one-run ball to beat the Nationals on Tuesday.

The only run came on a Wilson Ramos sacrifice fly in the second inning. Fernandez worked around four hits and four walks with five strikeouts. It was certainly the least dominant of Fernandez's first five starts of the season. He boasts a terrific 2.53 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 32 innings. Fernandez will go up against the Padres at home next in an attempt to remain undefeated.

Charlie Furbush (biceps) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's the first time he's been on the bump since landing on the disabled list with left biceps tedinitis. Furbush will throw one more bullpen session on Thursday before likely being cleared for a short rehab assignment.

Geovany Soto homered, had three RBI and reached base all five times in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Soto had a two-run double in the first inning before hitting a solo homer in the seventh. He also walked three times in the game. Soto is hitting .248/.336/.479 with seven homers through 51 games.

Freddie Freeman went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run on Tuesday as the Braves lost 7-3 to the Orioles.

Freeman, playing in his fourth game since being activated from the disabled list, staked the Braves to a 2-0 lead when he drilled a two-run home run off of Ubaldo Jimenez in the first inning. He's now 2-for-14 since being activated, but still owns a terrific .291/.359/.511 batting line along with 13 home runs and 43 RBI.

Wade Miley struggled from the outset Tuesday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox.

Miley spotted the White Sox a five-run lead but managed to keep them off the board until giving up two more runs in the sixth. Miley also walked three while striking out five in the poor start. The start was actually a departure from Miley's previous two starts, as he'd allowed just one run over his previous two starts spanning 13 innings. Miley will carry an 8-9 record, 4.65 ERA and 1.42 WHIP into Sunday's contest against the Rays.

Ubaldo Jimenez gave up only two runs in seven innings of work to earn the win on Tuesday against the Braves.

Freddie Freeman gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead when he drilled a Jimenez offering over the fence in left-center for a two-run home run. From there, the right-hander was leak-free, holding the Braves to four hits and three walks overall while striking out three. He was hammered for seven runs in reach of his previous two starts, skyrocketing his ERA. It now sits at a respectable 3.73 with a 1.33 WHIP and a 108/38 K/BB ratio over 113 1/3 innings. Jimenez will play host to the Tigers in his next start.
Jul 28 - 10:15 PM

Jeff Samardzija allowed four runs over eight innings in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Samardzija cruised through most of the first eight innings, allowing only two runs, but he stumbled trying to close out the game in the ninth. The right-hander allowed a run and another inherited runner scored after he left, depriving him of a quality start and marring his overall line on the night. Samardzija gave up seven hits and a walk in the game, striking out three in what could be his final start with the White Sox. If he's still in a Sox uniform come Sunday, Samardzija will take on the Yankees.
