Dustin Pedroia (knee) is not expected to bat any higher than sixth in the Red Sox' lineup upon his activation from the disabled list Friday.

Pedroia has often been the team's No. 2 hitter, but Andrew Benintendi is doing a fine job in that spot and the team doesn't want to disrupt a lineup that's been so good. The veteran second baseman is coming back from knee surgery and went just 1-for-14 at the plate for Triple-A Pawtucket on his rehab assignment.

Kyle Schwarber is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Jason Heyward isn't playing, either, with the Giants throwing lefty Derek Holland. The Cubs have Ian Happ, Albert Almora and Ben Zobrist in their outfield, with Zobrist batting leadoff.

Colby Rasmus (hip) has begun playing in extended spring training games.

Rasmus has been out since early April with a left hip flexor strain. It's unclear when he might be ready for an official rehab assignment, but he still needs a decent number of at-bats to knock the rust off given how much time he's missed.

Shelby Miller's (elbow) next start could come on an official rehab assignment.

Miller made his third extended spring training start Wednesday, allowing one run over five innings and saying afterward that his arm felt "great." The right-hander said that he hasn't been told yet where he'll make his next start, but he's "assuming it might be at an affiliate." If Miller does indeed begin a rehab assignment early next week, that would potentially put him in line to rejoin the Diamondbacks in late June.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Deck McGuire to Triple-A Buffalo.

McGuire has allowed six runs over 8 1/3 relief innings in the majors this season. He'll return to Buffalo's rotation.

Giants optioned LHP Josh Osich to Triple-A Sacramento.

Osich's latest stint only lasted a couple days and he allowed two runs over two innings in his lone appearance. He's posted an 8.25 ERA over 12 relief appearances with the Giants this season.

Brandon Nimmo went a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a triple, a walk and two runs scored to lead the Mets to a 5-0 win over the Brewers on Thursday.

A four-hit night in any fashion is impressive, but none of Nimmo's three extra-base hits were cheap, all three ripped into right field in varying fashions. His fourth hit, an infield single, showed he's got some wheels, too, and it marked the eighth consecutive plate appearance in which Nimmo reached base. That's his forte -- he's got a .450 on-base percentage to go with a .294 average and .541 slugging percentage following Thursday's game -- and he's forcing his way into an everyday role as a result. It's not terribly sexy for standard mixed leagues, but deeper leagues and ones that account for OBP are leagues in which Nimmo should be owned quickly, if not already.

Ryan Braun (back) went 1-for-4 with a single in his return Thursday against the Mets.

Braun missed 10 days with middle back tightness and was activated in time for Thursday's contest. He didn't do much, but neither did his teammates as they were shut out by Steven Matz and company. With first baseman Jesus Aguilar mashing and Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain locked into two of the outfield spots, it looks like Braun and Domingo Santana will share time in the other corner outfield spot until one or the other takes hold of the job, or the situation is worked out by a trade or injury. That's not ideal for any of the parties involved, or their respective fantasy owners, and it's a situation to monitor closely.
