Blue Jays activated OF Anthony Alford from the 10-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Alford is recovered from his Grade 2 hamstring strain, but the Blue Jays don't have a spot for him right now on their major league roster. The 23-year-old outfield prospect should get a shot at some point this summer.

Marlins recalled RHP Merandy Gonzalez from Double-A Jacksonville.

Gonzalez was working out of the rotation at Jacksonville, but it looks like the Marlins are planning to use him in long relief -- at least initially. The 22-year-old right-hander owns an impressive 2.54 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 332 strikeouts in 379 2/3 career minor league innings.
Apr 19 - 3:40 PM

Marlins placed LHP Chris O'Grady on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder sprain.

It's unclear how long he might be sidelined. O'Grady holds a 6.43 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 8/4 K/BB ratio in seven innings this season out of the Miami bullpen.
Apr 19 - 3:38 PM

Braves recalled RHP Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Wisler will make a spot start for the Braves on Thursday night against the Mets. The 25-year-old right-hander owns a 5.26 ERA in 298 career innings at the major league level and is not a recommended fantasy streamer.
Apr 19 - 3:33 PM

Braves designated OF Lane Adams for assignment.

The move clears a roster spot for Matt Wisler, who will make a spot start for the Braves on Thursday night against the Mets. Adams went 4-for-17 (.235) during his three-week stay with the Braves.

Yankees activated LHP CC Sabathia from the 10-day disabled list.

Sabathia will return to the Yankees' rotation on Thursday against the Blue Jays. He didn't make a minor league rehab start, but the veteran left-hander did throw a couple of extended bullpen sessions. Sabathia has been on the disabled list since April 7 because of a minor hip strain.
Apr 19 - 3:21 PM

Yankees placed RHP Luis Cessa on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18, with a left oblique strain.

Cessa suffered the injury in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's blowout loss to the Marlins and figures to be sidelined for at least three weeks. He could be optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's healthy.

Ian Happ - OF - Cubs

Cubs manager Joe Maddon noted Thursday that Ian Happ has been working on his approach with hitting coach Chili Davis.

Happ homered on the very first pitch of the 2018 MLB season back on March 29, but he's batting just .205/.271/.318 over his last 48 plate appearances and is on the Cubs' bench for Thursday's game against the rival Cardinals. "I've talked to Chili a lot about it," Maddon said. "[Happ] feels much better on the right side of the plate than the left side, which is normally not the case. Hopefully, he can maintain that as he works through the left-handed problems he's got. I really like the way this guy is. He'll work through it. I like the plan Chili has set forth for him."
