Diamondbacks designated C Oscar Hernandez for assignment.

The 23-year-old backstop had been slashing .197/.263/.352 with five homers and 13 RBI in 41 games at Triple-A. There's a decent chance he'll pass through waivers and continue to provide catching depth at Triple-A.

Diamondbacks placed RHP JJ Hoover on the 10-day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation.

The right-hander hasn't been very effective out of the Diamondbacks' bullpen this season, registering a 4.18 ERA, 1.99 WHIP and 36/17 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings. He should be back at some point in July.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of RHP Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Reno.

De La Rosa has responded well to stem cell treatments as he's attempting to avoid having Tommy John surgery. The 28-year-old hurler posted a 1.96 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 25/4 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings between High-A Visalia and Triple-A Reno.

Jose Ramirez is not in the Indians' lineup Friday.

The red-hot infielder is getting a day off. Erik Gonzalez will handle third base.

Mets optioned INF Gavin Cecchini to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini had four hits -- including a homer -- in 14 at-bats in his brief time with the big club. There was no longer room for him with Asdrubal Cabrera back from the disabled list.

Mets activated INF Asdrubal Cabrera from the 10-day disabled list.

Notice that we listed Cabrera as an infielder and not just a shortstop, as it sounds like the Mets might be leaning toward moving him over to second base. We'll find out for sure when they release Friday's lineup.

Dustin Pedroia (ribs) has been added to the Red Sox' lineup.

He had been slated to miss a fourth straight start after he was hit in the ribs by a pitch Sunday, but Pedroia apparently talked his way in there. He's at second base and batting second versus Alex Meyer and the Angels.

Kyle Hendricks (hand) could resume playing catch as soon as Saturday or Sunday.

Hendricks has been shut down for the last two weeks with tendinitis in his right hand, but it appears the soreness has abated to a certain degree. Obviously, if he does play catch this weekend it would be the first step in a throwing progression, so he's still a little ways away. A return before the All-Star break looks unlikely.
