Mariners recalled RHP Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma.
Guaipe will slide into a mid-relief role. He's allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings this season with Seattle.
Kyle Schwarber is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday night against the Pirates.
David Ross will catch Jake Arrieta and bat seventh Monday against Pirates left-hander J.A. Happ.
Stephen Strasburg (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday before a decision is made about where his next start will be.
It figures that he's going to be cleared to return to the Nationals' rotation over the weekend, but there's nothing official yet. Strasburg was sharp in his last rehab outing Monday at Triple-A Syracuse, striking out 11 batters over 5 2/3 innings. He has been on the disabled list since the first week of July with an oblique strain.
Athletics optioned INF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville.
Muncy gets the boot to clear a roster spot for Danny Valencia, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Monday. Muncy, 24, has batted just .207/.275/.378 in 91 plate appearances this season for Toronto.
Tigers owner Mike Ilitch has fired general manager Dave Dombrowski.
Al Avila is taking over as the club's new GM and executive vice president of baseball operations. "I've decided to release Dave from his contract in order to afford him the time to pursue other career opportunities," Ilitch wrote in a statement to the media. "I feel this is the right time for the Tigers to move forward under new leadership." Detroit is in the midst of a highly dissapointing 2015 season and became sudden sellers at last week's trade deadline, but the firing is still a shock. Dombrowski had an incredible run of regular-season success with the Tigers, winning four straight AL Central titles between 2011-2014.
Mason Williams will have right shoulder surgery on Friday.
Williams jammed his shoulder in June and continues to have discomfort. The surgery will end his season. It's too bad, as the 23-year-old was having a nice bounceback year prior to the injury.
Daniel Murphy is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Marlins.
Murphy will take a seat against left-hander Brad Hand. Wilmer Flores will start at second base while Juan Uribe plays third.
Yoenis Cespedes will bat second Tuesday against the Marlins.
Cespedes batted third in his first three games with the Mets, but Terry Collins has moved him up a spot in the order against left-hander Brad Hand. Juan Uribe is batting third while Lucas Duda will hit cleanup and Travis d'Arnaud will bat fifth.
