Scott Oberg (back) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Oberg, who's been out since June 8, should be ready to return to the Rockies' bullpen after one or two appearances on the farm. The 28-year-old right-hander has a 4.08 ERA in 17 2/3 innings this season at the major league level. That's pretty good compared to some of the other bloated ERAs in the Colorado 'pen.

Clayton Kershaw (back) will return to the Dodgers' rotation Saturday against the Mets.

Kershaw had been scheduled to make a minor league rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City, but that team is playing a weekend series in Omaha, where there is heavy rain in the forecast. The ace left-hander will instead jump right back into major league action, with a pretty favorable matchup versus the free-falling Mets. Kershaw has been limited to 49 innings this season due to back and biceps issues. When healthy, he has delivered a 2.76 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 53/11 K/BB ratio.

Rangers RHP prospect Alex Speas will undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Monday.

It's a tough early-career setback for the 20-year-old right-hander, who had registered a 2.20 ERA with 49 strikeouts over 28 2/3 innings this season at Low-A Hickory. Texas drafted Speas in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of a high school in Georgia.

Ervin Santana (finger) threw a 35-pitch live side session on Friday.

Jorge Polanco stood in the batter's box and took a few swings. Santana could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment early next week if he reports back Saturday with no discomfort. The veteran right-hander has been on the disabled list all season following February surgery on his right middle finger.

Cubs activated LHP Brian Duensing from the bereavement list.

Duensing was away from the Cubs for four days following the death of his grandfather. He will be available out of the bullpen Friday night against the Reds.
Jun 22 - 4:53 PM

Cubs optioned RHP Justin Hancock to Triple-A Iowa.

Hancock holds an impressive 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of relief this season at the MLB level, but the Cubs needed to clear a spot for Brian Duensing, who has been activated from the bereavement list in a corresponding move.
Jun 22 - 4:51 PM

Bradley Zimmer (shoulder) will be shut down from game activity for the next 4-6 weeks at Triple-A Columbus.

Zimmer tweaked his right shoulder while taking batting practice last week. He was given an anti-inflammatory injection and the Indians want him completely healthy before he returns to minor league games. The 25-year-old outfielder was demoted to Columbus on June 5 after batting just .226/.281/.330 over his first 114 plate appearances this season with Cleveland.
Jun 22 - 4:50 PM

Carlos Carrasco (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session early next week.

Carrasco was placed on the disabled list last Sunday with a right elbow contusion after getting drilled by a comebacker in his start Saturday against the Twins. He has already resumed playing catch and could feasibly return to the Indians' rotation before the end of June, without making a minor league rehab start.
